What is the most car you can buy for £5k?

Throw fuel economy and running costs out of the window, I need a car that with maximum luxury and performance but on a budget. The only criteria is it can't be a Jaguar XJR or Range Rover as these are what I am aiming to beat in a bit of friendly one-upmanship.

So far all I can think of is a Mercedes C32 AMG, any suggestions?

Its a follow up to that as I'm friends with both the OP and the chap with the XJR, but now another friend has just got a V8 RR L322 so its game on!

Would probably look to the E46 M3 if I went down that road, but I think I'd struggle to find an unmolested one for that money and it doesn't quite have the panache that I'm after. Seems a Merc of some sort may have to be the way forward

They do look seriously nice for the money . Strange a VW Phaeton of the same age actually costs more. Anyway think I'm going to be sensible and postpone this potential purchase for a while as it feels a bit reckless, thanks for all the suggestions anyway!
