Fat car share damaged wife's car?
Discussion
Is it possible for human weight to wear out the suspension on a car?
Only in order for my wife to secure a parking space at her workplace she has to participate in the car share scheme.
The person she has been nominated to give a lift to is morbidly obese and I have genuinely noticed the car now seems to be permanently lower down on the passenger side, and on tight turns it has started knocking from that side. Along with this is the electric motor for elevating the seat has given up the ghost.
I cannot prove her bulk is the cause of this but until she came on board for the car share scheme it was perfectly OK.
My wife doesn't want to lose her parking space but would she be within her rights to request a normal sized passenger perhaps?

How fat is the person? What sort of weight are we talking about?Only in order for my wife to secure a parking space at her workplace she has to participate in the car share scheme.

Some good points and sadly I think I am going to have to say something.
I have to be careful how I broach the subject as she (my wife) has become quite pally with her and apparently she (the car share) is already suffering with depression.
I know this as I enquired why there were significant strands of hair and dandruff in the car and it is apparently alopecia brought on by the depression.

...my wife says she has had to increase her braking distances considerably.
I just can't see that being true. The percentage difference to the overall weight of the car vs carrying a normal size passenger cannot be that great. She's doing it because she's aware that her passenger is not buckled in.

Not exactly evenly distributed though is it? A really big woman could be as much as 200kg...remember she can't even get the seatbelt around her.
31.5stone?!OP, how big is this woman?!
ETA This sort of build:

So does this mean that your missus' is now going to have to go back to walking to work, since she won't have anyone to car share with?
So effectively Bigg'n has shagged the suspension on your car, for a few weeks free ride to work.
You'll never get the smell of fat people out the headlining either!
No, the Pampered Chef thing is just part time; evenings and weekends. You host a party and invite friends around for wine and food and try to flog them cookware at vastly inflated prices. So effectively Bigg'n has shagged the suspension on your car, for a few weeks free ride to work.

Assuming the cookware is of an industrial size in her houseI've checked the passenger seat position and it is as far back as it can go (and if anything a bit further than it was designed to go).
Apparently part of the problem with the belt is that she is too wide to sit square on unless she has the window right down. In the current climate my wife has the a/c on and the windows up. The car sharer prefers this anyway as she suffers in the heat and has hot flushes.
The result is that she has to sit twisted around in the seat, thus increasing the surface area that needs restraining.
Those seat belt extensions look like a good solution, and is something she could keep in her handbag for whenever the need arises.

Those suggesting she sit in the back have grossly underestimated the size of person we are talking about here.
It's a 3 door hatchback and the opening offered up by the front door is barely large enough to admit her. The possibility of her squeezing in to the gap betwixt front seat and door pillar is zero.
