Which car best sums up the 1980s?

So, in a "Life on Mars" style scenario, you've been transported back to 1988 and you're off for a night out on the town. You're all "Miami Viced" up and have got some Wham! pumping out of the Kenwood but what would you be driving?

Lots to choose from. Probably something in a vivid, primary colour like bright red or white! However, an (older) friend had one of these around about that time in this colour too, so I'll go with this!

So let me get this right. This seems to be the general consensus. Like the Capri before it in the 1970s, this seems to be the car for the everyman/woman:



Did the XR3i outsell the XR2? We remember the 205 GTi/Golf GTi/5 GT Turbo more fondly now from that time for being better driver's cars but back in the day, these were much more popular yet you rarely see one now. I actually wouldn't mind one for the nostalgia in Mercury Grey please!
