Thought this may help as finding out this info is not easy. I and a colleague both just returned Mercs at end of lease. I also questioned the guy from BCA re return standards on BMW. This is when the lease is actually from Mercedes or BMW finance. Due to competitive market and bad press, Merc have relaxed the return standard now:

1) Kerbed alloys- Merc are now very generous, and allow scratches/ scuffs across 2 spoke faces (i.e. a large proportion of the wheel) before they charge. They will not charge for damage on the rim. All of mine and my colleagues' have rim damage and I had a bad scuff across one spoke, but no charge. For diamond cut if you are charged it is £85 a wheel- not worth doing it yourself.
2) Merc allow 40mm dents now with no charge. Then they will charge you smart repair if possible.
3) You DO NOT have to have the car serviced if the service is just 'due'- i.e. it has come up as due on the Merc dashboard. It is only if it becomes overdue at 30 days post due that you have to service it before it goes back.
4) BMW are less generous on wheel damage, but the charge for any type of alloy is only £18 per wheel!
5) BMW only allow dents of 10mm, but only charge £15 for a smart repair if that can be done.
6) BMW now on a system where they film the car on an ipad and software detects dents and determines if smart repair possible.

Overall compared to the microscopic examination the car underwent on my last Merc return, this was a drastically improved experience and as such I would definitely recommend a Merc lease nowadays.
