I have been on the look out for a nice EP3 Type R for a while now and can't believe how hard it has been. A couple of years ago the market seemed awash with quality cars.

Don't get me wrong good cars are out there but the prices seem to be far too high £7k plus or miles away. The cars I've looked at have turned out to be far from perfect with lacking service history.

I hear what everyone is saying distance is not an excuse, I've just always been lazy/lucky that the cars I've wanted have popped up locally.

Out of interest does anyone know how many premier edition EP3's were produced?

Went to have a look at another EP3 yesterday, premier edition, 90k, advertised as 'good' service history, £4500. It was a dog, clutch biting very high, multiple dents and scratches which couldn't be seen in the photos or weren't mentioned, oil very dirty.

Was that recently? I have a friend in Holland who regularly comes over here to buy S2ks/Type Rs to break for parts over there. Makes quite a penny doing it too. Especially on S2000s!
Off topic but I must say I've been a big fan of Youtube videos for a long time, only just twigged it was you posting on here. I think the first video I saw was you scaring the life out of your misses biggrin

I did look at all the options before deciding on a EP3. Ideally I would love a DC2 or DC5. The thing that puts me off a DC2 is rust, I have spent far too much time on previous cars dealing/worrying with rust. This needs to be my everyday car. DC5's are just too expensive.

I agree it is much more easy to find a good FN2 and no doubt they are very capable cars, I just irrationally don't like them, the styling, dash etc I just don't like them, I prefer the basicness of the EP3 if that makes sense.

I would definitely consider a Accord Type R but from what I can see these are even harder to find a good one and are getting on a bit now and from what I have read age brings with it problems on these, weak gearboxes, rust etc.

What about a Megane R26? I just sold my EP3, it was disappointing compared to either Integra, it's not hardcore enough to compare to the best type R's and yet too hardcore to be a nicer daily than an FN2. A Megane might be a better bet?
Renault's just don't do it for me. I've had a go in a Clio 182, the driving position was horrible for someone my height and it just felt cheap.

Where abouts are you based? I need to sell my grey EP3 Premier in the near future due to work reasons. It doesn't have the correct seats, seems they were replaced by pre-face lift ones.
South coast. How come the seats were replace? The Recaros are one of the biggest appeals of the Premier edition.

There's a perfectly good CTR on my driveway, sadly likely to be for sale soon though.

Looks a nice car, it is a shame about the seats though.

You can get a pair of premier recaros for £400-£600 on eBay so if the car is the right price you could replace them easily.
That's true, I'm just lazy and don't like hassle.

So a Ep3 Type R has been advertised down the road from me. It's a 2004, cosmic grey, 75k, full service history although not Honda for the last 4 years. It is quite clean, had 3 previous owners, although the current owner is a young lad and I don't like to be judgmental but fits the current stereotype of a type R owner. He kept saying how quick it is in Vtec etc but seems to have very little mechanical knowledge or sympathy. He's had it two years, fitted a K&N filter which puts me off a bit. It's also had an advisory for an oil leak on the previous 2 MOT's but not the most recent and tbf can't see any sign of a leak, what could have this leak been? It obviously concerns me that it potentially could have run low on oil.

Anyway I don't know what to do it seems a nice car and is priced well I believe at £3500, was up at £4000 but will except £3500, everything seems fine but the things above put me off. Would you or wouldn't you?

Strikes me as being a bit too cheap, at that mileage.

Anyone else agree?
I should have really explained more about the price, also I have no idea why I put ono. The car was advertised at £4000, I have negotiated it down to £3500. He needs the car gone, he car afford the insurance etc etc.

Dc2 rust....

I know bodywork is a difficult thing to price but roughly how much would it cost to sort out rear arch rust on a dc2, both sides worse case scenario?
