Brother and sister-in-law's 2016 Fiesta Zetec-S diesel has disappeared from the lay-by over the road from their house overnight.

Obviously we hear tons of stories on here about cars being stolen, but it always seems to be ones with keyless entry where the crims have reprogrammed a new key to start the car, either by the OBD port or whatever.

Their Fiesta, however, was not keyless go. It requires a physical key to start the engine and they still have both of the keys - their house has not been touched! They've owned the car from new, so nothing funny going on there either. There's no sign of any broken glass and the car was parallel parked with cars in front and behind. Am I right in thinking that it's basically impossible to hot wire a modern car like this and so the only way to steal it would be with a cloned key? I've asked my S-I-L when it was last taken to a dealer and she thought it had, but wasn't sure exactly when. Bloody annoying though - it's a lease car and they don't have GAP, plus one of them now can't get to work.

Sorry yes, I did mean to say that's another alternative. It's a pretty built-up area, though, so you'd have to be pretty brave / stupid to do something so noisy as to low-loader it away in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the replies so far. Definitely not parked illegally - it's just a lay-by for the houses nearby and there's no restrictions at all. Will keep this thread updated if I find out any more about it. Does seem weird though - as said, it's not a particularly desirable car!
