Remap Friendly Car Insurers?
Discussion
Hey Everyone
Its that time of year again and time for renewing of my car insurance.
My car isn't currently remapped but I am not too sure if I can be bothered with the hassle of remapping as most car insurers don't allow it like my current insurer which is Direct Line.
I have tried Chris Knott, Sky Insurance, Flux Direct, Brentacre, Greenlight and Adrian Flux.
Is there any others I should try out that allow remapping?
The two that have come back the cheapest is Adrian Flux and Chris Knott and I am aware these are brokers their policies are with Marker Study and Equity Red Star, both I have heard are not great to deal with if you need to make a claim, is this true and anyone had any dealings when making a claim when with these underwriters?

My car is remapped, declared and insured through Direct Line. Unless it's a combination of remap and other mods that stops you from being on their insurable list they should at the very least quote you.
Hmm that is interesting. What % increase did your engine power go up by when you remapped it? I'll ask them again and see what they say.My car is remapped, declared and insured through Direct Line. I was with Greenlight (Markerstudy) with my Focus ST and claimed a windscreen replacement with no hassle at all, very fast and painless.
I've just bought an S3 but Greenlight only insured vehicles to the value of £20k so I had to swap to Admiral., I have to say though that there was only £20 difference per year between the £4k Focus ST stage 2 mods and the £21k S3. I thought S3 premiums would be higher but was impressed with how cheap it was tbh. I'd puckered up for nothing!
Cool. So I'm probably worrying about nothing in regard to markerstudy? Haven't thought about Admiral, they definitely ok with remap? Mine was with Privilege for a good few years and they were happy to list all the modifications, including mapping, modified exhaust etc. for a really negligible extra cost.
They only stopped being happy when the perceived increase in power went over 21%, so I had to move it over to A Plan who now cover it with a blanket quote of "An increase in power greater than 26%"
Privilege might not be any good as I think it will be over 21% however A Plan might be worth going with, who are their underwriters? They only stopped being happy when the perceived increase in power went over 21%, so I had to move it over to A Plan who now cover it with a blanket quote of "An increase in power greater than 26%"

Some of it might be car specific reluctance. Perhaps Abarths are more expensive to fix than normal 500s, and therefore making it go faster increases the chances of having to repair it. I can't imagine many mainstream big name insurers touching a remapped Golf R / S3 with a bargepole. Already a hot potato car as standard, because of theft.
