£100K Garage: Ricky Champion-Patel

£8K on a Maserati Ricky? Braver man than us...

Name: Ricky Champion-Patel
Previously owned: Mini 1000, Citroen AX GT (x2), Alfa 146, BMW 330Ci (E46), BMW 318i compact, BMW M3 (E46) x2, BMW M3 (E92), BMW 335i (E92), BMW 320d, Jaguar S-type V8, Renault Clio 182, BMW 116i Sport (ironically named, I'm sure)
Currently own: BMW M4, Renault Clio 197 and Audi Q7 (on order...).
On the shortlist: Something exotic, maybe a Porsche GT3 or a McLaren Sports Series car. I would also love an Ariel Atom.

Rest of Europe:Maserati 3200GT
Cost:
£7,999
Balance: £92,001
Why I chose it: "This has got 'financial ruin' written all over it... But, for £7,999 that V8 has got to be worth a punt!"

UK:Caterham 7 Roadsport
Cost:
£14,995
Balance: £77,006
Why I chose it: "This would be a dedicated track car. The fact this is a competition car and had a new engine should be good enough to see me through some track days to improve driving skill."

USA:Harley Davidson Custom 1200
Cost: £9,980
Balance: £67,026
Why I chose it: "At this price point, I know I'd get a lot more enjoyment out of a £10K American bike than I would a £10K American car. This looks the business, too

Japan:Toyota Celica GT4
Cost: £4,989
Balance: £62,037
Why I chose it: "I've always loved these cars. With this being a white GT4, all it needs is a Castrol decal set and you're good to go!"

Germany:BMW M5
Cost:
£56,444
Balance: £5,593 - to be spent on track days, driver tuition and, most likely, fixing the Maserati.
Why I chose it: "I need something a bit classier for the family duties. Effortless style and an amazing powertrain. Nice to have a bit of luxury after the Caterham and the Harley too!"

A decent selection - love the Caterham and M5 but the Maserati is my pick; lord knows why the distinctive boomerang lights were dropped for the 4200!

The Maser listed is a Cat D which adds to the incredible bork factor. Shame as the engine is a real gem in my opinion, a 3.2TT V8 is a bit of a marvel all things considered. For £8k it's a tantalising proposition either way!

Those beautiful boomerang lights were ditched because they didn't get a thumbs-up from Americans! Why we have to live with American poor taste is beyond me!

Who the heck would listen to Americans when it comes to Italian design!?
