So I came home the other night, somewhere between 12 and 2 am to find this van blocking my driveway. Didn't know who it belonged to so I decided to tow it out of the way.

Earlier on I was in my garage and saw the van pull up. Spoke to the guy in it, saying 'excuse me mate do you mind not blocking my driveway in future.'
Which was then met with hostility. 'I wasn't parked there... Talk to me politely... Clearly you've got nothing better to do... Next time call the council... I Don't care... Blah blah blah'.

Clearly there was no reasoning with the guy. I don't believe I was rude to him, was I?

So I decided to call the police to see what they say. Their response was to knock on doors to find the owner and tell them to move it, if not, call the police and we will try to contact the owner. Ultimately it's the council's responsibility to deal with these matters, who will then ticket the vehicle or have it moved.

Do they really expect me to go knocking on everyone's doors in the middle of the night?

So i've called the council, who only appear to only be open until 4pm? Useless!

So i'm wondering, what are your views on this situation? What would you have done? What would you do in future?

I'd love to go into full falling down mode, that's what i'm good at lol. However I fear the consequences.

Frozen sausages wuuut?
I could block him in but it would leave my neighbour at a disadvantage as I'd then be blocking his drive.

I did think about leaving it in the middle of the road lol. Perhaps i'll do that.

I'm considering buying a set of these hydraulic wheel skates...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Four-Vehicle-Positioning...

Some of these comments are ridiculous though. How do you expect me to move a van so far? I can't exactly steer it if I decide to tow it. Even the wheel skates would take 2 or 3 people.

It's a Transit isn't it? Scrotes have been stealing them with flat headed screw drivers for the last 3 decades, not difficult to get into one and just drive it off! biggrin
Nah it's a vw caddy.

Nope, takes too long and the oil pressure warning light will stay/come on and too obvious when and where it happened. Just loosen the sump plug, will slowly come out. The only issue is it will leave a slick along the road when it happens.
This exactly. I'd rather do this and then top it up with water. But then there's the issue of how to get the water into the sump?

Ok, so how do you seal the hose to the sump to avoid it pissing out? And then how do you put the sump plug back in without it pissing out?

What did you tow it with?
My car and a steel wire tow rope. Attached it to my front wishbone and the other end to his spare tyre. Put my trolley jack under his rear axle. Reversed.

Unless I've missed it, did the guy the OP dealt with realise that his van had moved from where he'd left it? Did he have anything to say about it? Did he say he was going to continue to block your drive?
He must have realised. Didn't say anything though. Just went off on one like a child. In fact, his kid was with him when I tried to talk to him, can't have been any older than 12 or so. What a wonderful example of a human being. I was just amazed at how retarded he acted. I was quite civil with him, and if I was in his position I would have just said sorry and avoided a confrontation. But he acted liked I was in the wrong. I find it quite funny. If I see him again i'll just start winding him up. He doesn't realise it, but he's mouthed off to the wrong person lol. I take revenge quite seriously.
