One-off Dodge Challenger HellScat heads to raffle

At just $3 a ticket for the 1,000lb ft car, torque could hardly be cheaper...

Back in the late 1960s, the battle over hearts and minds in the Big Three's war for muscle car supremacy was in full swing. Spotting an opportunity to get one up on the competition, Dodge decided to unite its cars under one banner, they created the Scat Pack. Marketing material and TV ads showed its big block, V8s owning the streets of 'Scat City' and, out of this notion of cubic inch based community, the Scat Pack Club was born. Members paid a paltry $3 a year and in return received a membership card, bumper sticker and jacket patch, as well as a Mopar Performance parts catalog and a wide range of magazines and newsletters. What a time to be alive.

Cars such as the Charger R/T, Challenger R/T and Dart GTS became the centrefolds, now adorned with the Scat Pack's famous tail stripe and Super Bee emblem. Through the Scat Pack, Dodge not only engaged with its fans and kept them up to date on the heroics of its racing drivers, but also sold them a range of aftermarket 'Scat Packages', including everything from racier gauges to serious performance parts.

Fast forward 50 years and, to celebrate the Scat Pack and raise money for New Beginning Children's Homes, Dream Giveaway Garage is raffling a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T and the world's only HellScat.

What's a HellScat you say? Well, it's a one-off version of Dodge's production Hellcat of course. Putting out over 1000hp and 1000lb ft of torque thanks to a 4.5L(!) Whipple supercharger, heavy-duty driveshaft, custom engine tuning, and street-legal drag radial tires. There are no Good Neighbour modes to be found here.

Both vehicles in the raffle are verified and autographed by the inimitable 'Big Daddy' Don Garlits - a 17-time National Hot Rod Association World Champion, and the first drag racer to officially surpass the 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, and 270mph marks over the quarter mile. Below is a video explaining the history of the Scat Pack and Garlits' association with it, as well as introducing you to the cars up for grabs.

You can get more information on the competition here. Or alternatively, you could skip all these shenanigans and buy a Hellcat straight from the PH Classifieds here!

Warning: Video contains extreme quantities of American-ness.
