The Design Museum's latest expo details 70 years of the Prancing Horse - PH went for a poke around

'The client is not always right.' Famous words uttered by Enzo Ferrari, who 70 years ago created his first car, founding not only one of the most famous automobile manufacturers, but one of the most famous brands of all time. To celebrate 70 years of one of Italy's finest exports, the Design Museum in Kensington has brought together some of the highlights of the past seven decades, with a unique twist - Ferrari: Under The Skin.

This brand-new exhibition, which runs from now until 15 April 2018, puts Ferrari under the microscope in more ways than one. Firstly, it takes a closer look at Ferrari the man, with some of Mr Ferrari's personal possessions on display including his drivers licence and watches. The exhibition of course also gives an exclusive view into the workings of the Ferrari road car, from conception to completion. Never before seen drawings, models and footage demonstrate how a car is designed, wind tunnel tested, refined and perfected. The most striking of which has to be the full scale clay model of the limited edition Ferrari J50, built to celebrate 50 years of Ferrari in Japan.

No Ferrari exhibition would be complete without a mouth-watering selection of eye-wateringly expensive metal and carbon. Before you even enter the exhibition, you are greeted by a 365 'Daytona' Competizione, shortly followed by a 125S just through the bright red doors. The 125S was the first ever car Ferrari built in 1947; however, the car on display is a replica from 1987 as neither of the original two cars survive. Further in, beautiful cars such as the 275 GTB, Nick Mason's F40, and a 250 GT Cabriolet can be found. Slightly more special cars include the 166MM, ex-Gianni Agnelli Testarossa Spider (the only one in the world), 250 GT SWB and 250 GT Sperimentale (both of which were raced by Sir Stirling Moss), Gordon Ramsay's LaFerrari Aperta, 500 F2 and F2000 World Championship winning F1 car!

By far the most valuable car in the collection is the 1962 250 GTO, however, no photography of this car was permitted in the exhibition, so we've included a shot of the same car from Goodwood last year.

Additionally, helmets worn by Alberto Ascari, Mike Hawthorn, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen are shown alongside racing suits, F1 engines and gearboxes, and the 1952 British GP winner's trophy!

Ferrari: Under The Skin is open daily 10:00-18:00 and adult tickets cost £18. With over £140m of Ferrari on display, we'd certainly recommend a visit if you're in the area or if you love the Prancing Horse!
