What actually happens to vehicles used in serious crime?

My question is - what happens to the cars involved?
This is not to detract from the shocking and tragic crimes involved - everyone except the killers deserve to rest in peace.

F424 NPE. That Range Rover has probably the murkiest history of them all, with however many supposed sightings and appearances it put in over the years. A lot of them have been disputed but there's definitely a picture of that plate getting a speeding ticket from around 2004 or so as well.
If I had to guess, the cars either end up in police storage for the rest of time or are crushed. I have no proof of that and the fact people still discuss where the Range Rover from the aforementioned Rettendon murders got to would seem contrary, but it seems the most likely fate.

Just noticed that all of Bellfield’s cars had their tax expired on 01 March 2004 which suggests that they were seized by Police on or before this date.
Only exceptions are the Fiat Punto convertible he was infamously photographed in and the Daewoo Nexia used allegedly to lure Milly Dowler (which has vanished without a trace - I could only find a CCTV image , and a picture of it parked with the VRN redacted and no police reports or seizure photographs).
