My First Post…. Have read this site for years but never posted at all but want to share this, in case any of the info is useful.

On Thursday at 1.30am , 5 men in Balaclavas/hoodies broke into my home with the intention to find the key, I live on a nice quiet estate just outside Halifax, West Yorks.

Luckily the alarm sounded and my missus looked out of the window, to see 5 youths running down the side of the house in Balaclavas.

I went downstairs and checked the doors, could see they had forced the back patio door which was wide open.

Police arrived quickly and SOCO found a good footprint, no fingerprints. My missus is now terrified and my lad (14) slept through it all.

Anyway – using the neighbourhood watch group on Facebook, we found a good locksmith and with the help of Police Crime Prevention Officer (who was dead helpful) we now have a house like a fortress.

2 useful bits of info she gave me were :

Fences, if you have a high fence they will easy climb it, but put a trellis , that flimsy stuff for plants to grow on the top of it, they will be scared to get a slight cut for DNA.
Charity bags, many of these are fake but give thiefs a really good way to get close to your property / front door etc.

I am getting a New Car on 1st March , which is much more desirable than the M235i , none of this will stop me enjoying what I have worked hard to afford, just be more aware.

Thanks

Obviously not every charity bag or leaflet is fake but it's a great way to get up close to the home. But just hoping this and the trellis might just help someone out.

Having a decent cctv system fitted today.

Woke this morning and my missus friend (same village) been burgled overnight.

We have been advised to leave car keys on middle floor (3 storey) house on the top step. So it's not easy or difficult to find them.

My missus friend who was done last night had done this, and despite losing cash, cards, jewellery etc they didn't get the keys to 2 brand new cars.

Obviously everyone decides for themselves.... just sharing experience
