It is with a heavy heart after 25k miles in my BMW 430D over the last year, I have admitted the government were right and we should never have bought them damn soot churning bd cars.

So last week and being a good proletariat; I bought a BMW M4 Competition pack. MPG is at 23 for the last 500 miles and Sainsbury's Super unleaded sales are at a record level but at least I am conforming.

Has anyone else converted?

To the OP; the Government have won twice, no?

Government then: Buy a diesel

OP: Ok

Government now: Buy a petrol

OP: Ok

wink
....... and collect the duty and VAT from the higher sales of the petrol
They won bugger all. In the last year I have bought 2 diesels but am only selling the BMW430d as I need the ML for the dog. I have also bought 2 x 6cylinder petrols that both have a lot of power and poor mpg. I don't really care two hoots about the government and what they incentivise us to buy but I do like the irony of selling a diesel for a petrol that burns fuel at twice the rate.

Today I waved goodbye to my diesel. Down to three petrols and one diesel.

We have an X3 petrol now on order so we may become soon an all petrol household.

No plans to go electric or even hybrid so the Governments hasty ill informed rash decision, has worked well.

Roll on 450bhp M4 as my daily car.

Having started this thread and being slightly sarcastic about listening to the government and getting rid of a BMW 430D for an M4 petrol, I have a confession.

Today we agreed a swap on our Mini petrol for a Cayenne diesel.

Sod the government

Went the other way and sold a petrol car, bought a diesel. Instead of 33mpg I now get 53mpg.
LOL I have done it both ways in the last two months. Sold my Bmw 430D for an M4 and sold a petrol Mini for a Cayenne diesel.

Not sure the governments policies have any bearing on our car buying habits.
