Hi im sure this question has been asked many times before but im having trouble finding the answer. I am looking at purchasing a 3 year old car from an auction that has a private plate on it and would like to know if its possible and how costly it would be to put the original plates back on and are they still available to use since the previous owner changed them.

Thank you for the reply you have put my mind at ease knowing I can get a registration plate that relates to the correct age of the vechicle from the DVLA if the original is not available to refit.

Thanks everyone I just don't want a plate on a car that has no meaning or relevance to me and when people start asking me what the plate stands for

The car is in the auction compound and shows in the auction lising that it has a private plate on it. So I was guessing that the original owner no longer wants the plate or can't be bothered to change it over.

I've just gone on to AutoTrader and done a free search on the reg plate and it's coming up as a white Toyota pickup 2015. In the auction it's a gun metal 2016 Bmw.
So I will need to look in to it a lot more.

It was listed on the bca auction site as a bmw 330e stating "private plate" . Both auto trader and the DVLA shows the plate referring to a white Toyota pickup.
However this morning the auction details have changed and it's showing a normal number plate. The earlier photo showing the private plate we're in the auction holding compound.
I can't understand why if it's listed against a Toyota it was photographed on a bmw.
