Swift Sport - £16,499 (during June)

Temporary swiftest Swift discount confirmed as launch date approaches

Despite the many positive attributes seemingly present in the new Suzuki Swift Sport, its £17,999 list price has proved an obstacle for many since the first drives. Not only is it significantly beyond the £14k an old Swift Sport cost (which only had 4hp less), £18k puts the Swift at the mercy of the more senior hot hatches - the 200hp Fiesta ST at £18,995 comes to mind.

Now while the Suzuki comes packed with equipment for that price, and while the majority of cars are purchased on finance in 2018, it would appear that Suzuki has had second thoughts about that list price too. Because for the first month of sales, which commence on June 1st, the Sport will be available with a £1,500 discount - dropping the price to £16,499.

Suddenly it becomes a more tempting proposition. £16.5k puts the Swift beneath the list price of a 100hp Fiesta ST-Line (£17,140), a five-door Mini One (£16,600) and an Abarth 500 Trofeo (£17,660 with more power than the Swift, but a 10 year-old design). At the moment any options to bump that price up haven't yet been confirmed, although the Swift Sport does come with six no-cost colour choices, reversing camera, sat-nav, DAB and adaptive cruise as standard.

The introductory offer will be offered to new and existing retail customers, with a PCP deal due in the next couple of weeks. Does this price cut do enough to convince you of a Swift Sport? What else might you consider for the money? Can we make it a page of comments before the used alternatives are mentioned? Let debate commence!

"We've not got the pricing wrong. We just found a huge bag of money in the Suzuki-UK office and decided to share our windfall with new Swift-Sport buyers. Roll-up, roll-up."
