Jaguar iPace eTrophy on the move!

With the road car currently being launched, progress is being made with the race car too...

There's considerable intrigue on PH around the imminent arrival of the Jaguar I-Pace, given it finally appears to provide a credible alternative to the Tesla luxury EV monopoly. That it's a Jaguar, with a very distinctive design to boot, will only have helped its cause.

With the road car being launched to the world's media as we speak, we'll know soon enough just whether Jag has hit the mark with its electric debut. Don't forget, however, that there's a motorsport programme to consider as well. Announced at the Frankfurt show last year, the I-Pace eTrophy will support Formula E from the end of 2018. And with that date not all that far away in the grand scheme of things, now is our first chance to see the eTrophy racer actually move.

It was driven at Berlin as part of the weekend's Formula E event, CEO of the sport Alejandro Agag completing five laps of the Templehof circuit - look, there's a video and everything. Agag said of the drive: "I had a lot of fun - it was incredible."

While we still don't have any more specification details about the I-Pace eTrophy yet, progress is clearly being made pretty briskly. With the road car due and the race car launch just a few months away, this is a huge year for electrified Jaguars. Does the eTrophy make Formula E more appealing to you? Would you buy a seat if you could? In fact, would you buy a roadgoing I-Pace if you could? Plenty to discuss...

It’s the future, I want to like it, I really do, but I just can’t summon up any enthusiasm.

Just seems so soulless.

Try driving one, then say it’s souless. You might be surprised.
But that’s just it - e-Trophy isn’t about me driving it, just watching it.

I’m sure the drivers are having fun.
But given the choice I bet they’d rather be driving V8 supercars/DTM/Porsche Supercup

From my experience electric go karts are fun but compared to petrol karts there’s no comparison.
