so, in the last year I've had the car damaged when parked (now sorted)

the bike stolen when parked

and so I'm paranoid.

I daren't leave either cars or the bike anywhere so I'm going to buy a car I don't care about to drive to events and places where it has to be out of my sight.

(airports, Goodwood events, London for dinners etc)

So, am I a paranoid lunatic?

Should I just not have nice things ?

or is this the world for a car fan now?

ha well this is going better than expected.

I thought I would get 'if you can't afford it you shouldn't buy it' etc etc

I just like nice cars and find it so stress inducing when inconsiderate types damage it.

So - probably doesn't quite qualify as Shed - but i'm looking for 5k Boxster type cars.......possibly Z4 etc.

Something that's quite nice to drive but won't break the bank, and the odd ding won't matter.

I'm paranoid about the Defender as they are one of the most stealable cars out there - but I really did want one. The whole point was that it's a shed but well, that isn't really working out for me.

the toaster story above.............ha ha - even I think that's too far!

try owning a Golf R, closely followed by an Audi S3.... laugh
yeah agreed - but the defenders can be stolen with a chewing gum wrapper whilst drunk!

Be careful getting something you actually want as a "shed". If you get a z4/boxster you will end up "caring" about it and be back to square 1....

I bought a £800 mk1 MX5 2 years ago for a shed, ended up loving it and now only use it on sunny days and park it away from others etc... ended up having to buy a shed to replace the "shed"

Be warned!
yeah - I know exactly this - I like Mx5s!

I understand not using your “good” car all the time but I really don’t understand it when you end up with said car in the garage all the time and do all of your miles in a shed - lot of expense on tax/insurance/depreciation for nothing if you’ve got a performance car sitting not turning a wheel
yeah it's a good point. The 'good' car is appreciating though - and I do use it for all the things that are fun. I just don't want to use it for crappy stuff like parking in London overnight or if I am ever near an NCP etc.

The Defender was for that - but well now, they have become too rare / stealable

The bike is a non starter unless locked in a garage with an armed Rottweiler standing guard. (I live in London)

So - it's a 'shed' if I want to sleep at night unfortunately!

Plus my insurance policiies are generally 5k per vehicle - between them it adds up to enough for the year

Ok it wasn't a 'whatshed' but now it is...........

When did used cars get so expensive? Maybe it's because i'm looking on PH.............

2k.............. not embarrassing, RWD , petrol and Manual.

Mx5.....
some form of BMW

is there anything else??!?

don't even mind classic - but everything seems to be tweltvy million quid.

I'd rather buy an S2000 for 10 or a Abarth Spider thing than pay too much for a sheddy shed

likewise the Z3

Z4s look a good sheddy mcShed bet.................but then I don't want a pissy little engine.

I think I'm learning i'm crap at Shed buying biggrin

Nothing wrong with having a shed, it makes driving the good car more fun.

Although you do have to drive the good cars smile
currently looking at 944s...........as although not a 'shed' they are quite sheddy for low money and if reliable could be a good fun shed.

My “shed” is an MR2 Roadster. One of the most fun cars I’ve had, excellent driving machine. As others say, liberating to not be precious or paranoid about it. I’ve had flasher cars (previous car a Z4 Coupe) but you are definitely more paranoid about it, and that was still a car under £10k, never mind one worth a lot more. My MR2 has dents, scrapes and all sorts, just character really on that car smile
I had one of those as a shed!! Drove it to the Ring, and the brakes went off in about 4 corners, other than that was a brilliant shed!
