Last year some utter hit my car whilst it was parked and drove off without leaving any details. I claimed on insurance (first time ever in 10yrs of driving) assuming that the new headlight, paint repairs etc would be prohibitively expensive and this is what insurance is for, on the phone I was explicitly told that this would be going down as a non-fault claim. After getting a ridiculous renewal price and therefore getting a new policy with another company they inform me that my claim hasn't been recorded as non-fault so my details are incorrect, ringing the first one I am told that because they didn't recover any money they record it as a fault claim. If I choose to pay the whole cost of the claim (having already forked out £450 of excess) then I can keep my no claims and have it recorded as non-fault.

From this I have to wonder what the fk they are even there for? Either way I am worse off than if I never bothered reporting the accident in the first place despite it being zero fault of mine. As it stands it looks exactly the same as if I'd gone full GTA and caused a 20 car flaming pileup so I'll be getting quotes to reflect this for years which will doubtless cost me thousands, all because some utter is too incompetent to not hit a large stationary car and too dishonest to own up to it.

I think the lessons to take from this are:
1: Don't bother paying for a decent policy as you can't actually use it, buy the cheapest sttest policy available with a massive excess, the bare minimum to be road legal.
2: Don't claim on it unless the damage is many many thousands of pounds as you'll be worse off
3: If you see someone hit you and run you might as well go full GTA road rage, chase them down and ram them off the road into a tree as it'll have the exact same effect on your future policy costs

In case it wasn't coming across I am fking fuming mad
