Performance Solutions Mosquito aims to rival BT62

Czech firm releases early design images of a road-legal track car that could make production in two years

We'd not normally pay much attention to the promise of another road-legal, track-focussed supercar, but the resemblance of Performance Solutions' newly-released Mosquito to the Brabham BT62 has piqued our interest. Here we have a motorsport brand-designed, two-seat coupe wearing an aggressive front-end and whacking great rear wing, and set to use a V8 powertrain...

Such traits are familiar (read: near identical) to the completely bespoke BT62, a car this Czech-designed model looks to be gunning for with its own hardware. Since the project has so far only progressed to the creation of renderings, any numbers put out hold very little grounding at the moment. But Performance Solutions, a respected motorsport data company in the Czech Republic, is aiming for its two-seater to be capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds and have a top speed of about 200mph.

Intentions are for the car to use an off-the-shelf American powertrain, which means the motor mounted amidships of the Mosquito could come from GM or Ford. The former's 6.2-litre LS crate motor has provided some enormous power figures to other companies seeking its use, so chasing the BT62's 700hp peak ought to be doable. Ford's 5.0-litre isn't exactly short on tunability, either. Performance Solutions says 600hp is the target.

Ok, so right now it's all up in the air promises, but Performance Solutions does claim to have interested customers that have already reserved build slots, which suggests there's some cash behind the process. Intentions are for the first cars to be completed within 24 months and pricing to be appropriately stratospheric for a completely bespoke track machine. Something with seven figures is predicted.

Whether you believe it'll reach production or not, the prospect of a new track machine can never be a bad thing, right? Plus, Performance Solutions has even loftier ambitions yet; like Brabham, it wants to go racing at Le Mans...

I'n not going to make any comment on how likely it is for this to actually exist/come out/be more than a pipe dream...

BUT

I think it looks absolutely fantastic.
