Meet Rezvani's Dodge Demon-powered "vehicle for the apocalypse"
In a sea of absurdly proportioned, aggressively styled and abundantly powerful super-SUVs, it can be hard to stand out. Setting itself apart from the crowd has never been a problem for the Rezvani Tank, though, and should be even less of an issue in future, with the 2020 iteration set to boast 1,000hp and 870lb ft.
That’s in range-topping ‘Tank X’ spec, a $349,000 option which, along with the $295,000 ‘Tank Military’ trim, sees the machine fitted with a Dodge Demon-sourced 6.2-litre supercharged V8. Lesser guises are available for $155,000, and come equipped with a choice of 285hp 3.0-litre diesel, 285hp 3.6-litre V6, or 500hp 6.4-litre V8, but if you’re the kind of person who fancies seeing a Tank parked on your driveway - it’s not going to fit in the garage, is it - we’d wager the most powerful iterations are the ones you’ll want.
Compared to the previous model, the 2020 Tank sports an updated exterior design which, dare we say it, does actually look quite a bit better. The interior, meanwhile, remains highly customizable, but now centres around a 7.9-inch display from which an infotainment system featuring the likes of Apple CarPlay, Google Maps and Pandora radio can be accessed. Underneath are where the most significant changes ought to be found, though, with Rezvani now basing its creation on the new Jeep Wrangler’s superior JL platform, where the previous model used Jeep’s outgoing JK chassis.
In Military Edition spec the Tank is described as “truly a vehicle for the apocalypse”, with thermal night vision, ballistic protection, military-grade run-flat tires, underside explosive protection, an armored radiator, self-sealing fuel tank, reinforced suspension and ram bumpers all included. It also features electrified door handles, EMP protection, a smoke screen, sirens and strobe lights, an intercom, gas masks, a hypothermia and first aid kits. Everything you need for a mid-morning run to Waitrose, then.
Rezvani CEO, Ferris Rezvani, said of the updated design: “The focus of the new generation Tank was to be athletic in design and stance, have a refined ride and suspension, have a luxurious interior, and surpass 1,000 horsepower, all in a car that’s bulletproof and easily a daily driver. The new Tank is easily the toughest and most powerful production SUV in the world.”
