Yep, a Mustang Crossover

For many a strident PHer, it's the automotive equivalent of nails on a blackboard. Yet here we are.

Below is another speculative (ie: not official from Ford) illustration of the Mustang SUV / crossover. The illustration in the post above is also speculative.
As an EV, it surely could be easier (easier than ICE) to produce in RHD for markets like the UK and Australia.
Some further news:
-- "a driving range of 300 miles on a single charge"
-- Ford will "migrate all global products onto five vehicle architectures"
-- "Expect it to start somewhere around $40,000 when it arrives in 2020"

November will bring us a preview of this Mustang-inspired SUV.
At the Ford headquarters in Michigan, Ford has organised part of the company around what it calls iconic vehicles -- like Mustang and Bronco -- which have considerable emotional value among consumers as well as in popular culture, generally. From these "core" icons, a number of offshoots or line extensions will be produced (eg: the Mustang as a crossover, the Bronco as a pickup truck, etc.)

The people at Ford, having heard your concerns, would probably -- I'm simply guessing -- race to tell you that nothing changes with the Mustang GT and its performance car / GT car variants above and below.
The new group called Icons Group is not about diluting. It's simply an acknowledgement that some elements of style and some expectations of brand can be had, to a certain but limited extent, in another form factor.
In a way, it's kinda like the elements of 911 which appear on non-911 vehicles by Porsche.
This is not an easy task for a leviathan like Ford. Their natural inclination is to brand everything a Ford.
What we see now, however, is that consumers have elevated Mustang (and Bronco) significantly above the values imputed by the corporate parent. Consumers in effect _own_ the brand (and not Ford).
That is an important distinction.
Ford is following what customers say they like: what they like to experience, to express, and to share.
Based on the camouflaged prototype (displayed in a post above) that was photographed recently in public... Below is believed to be the most accurate rendering to date of this Mustang-inspired SUV / crossover. Still an unofficial depiction, mind.
To me it does indeed seem to adhere to what we see in that public appearance of the prototype. And I quite like it.

Crucially, this car is not merely an exercise in design. It's also a full-on battery-electric vehicle. Not a hybrid.
In some respects, it could be compared to a Jaguar I-PACE, but with construction, content, and pricing that makes it a mass-market product.
It's kind of exciting to see this unfold. Although there's a lot to like, there are perhaps some risks in extending the Mustang portfolio and in going full-on BEV.

a) Ford is taking a leadership position on BEVs -- providing dramatic evidence that BEVs are fully capable in all weather
b) This may be the first time that the prototype of the Mustang-inspired SUV has been publicised by Ford
c) November is still believed to be the timing for full reveal
According to a couple of sources, CAD renderings of the Mustang-inspired crossover have leaked. A pity that the PH mods demoted this thread to the Mustang section --- guaranteeing that fewer will know about it.

17th November it will be revealed.
Ford is now attacking directly the anxieties and questions of BEV ownership. "Say goodbye to gas forever" they say. Also, this all-electric Mustang-inspired crossover is capable of 47 miles in just 10 minutes of charging. 300 miles is the full-battery target.

This car is independent of, and in addition to, Ford's investment in all-electric startup Rivian, which is developing a pickup truck and an SUV. There's also the similar deals or partnerships with VW.

To dispel any doubt... This crossover looks to be produced in RHD and sold via a UK main dealer.
At the Ford UK website...
There's a page similar to the "Ford messages" US page (linked earlier above). The people at Ford UK use the same teaser silhouette, and they've adjusted the date to the day after the US date.
The UK page and US page are not identical. At a glance, the following stood out to me:
. . . a) The UK page leads with the car being environmentally more green. The US page leads with the car being a practical choice to replace your ICE car.
. . . b) The US page invites you to watch the live-stream reveal on the date. The UK page simply explains that the vehicle is coming soon.
. . . c) The UK page claims a WLTP estimated range of 370 miles. The US page claims an EPA estimated range of 300 miles.
. . . d) The US page prominently displays a claim of 47 miles of range after only 10 minutes of charging. The UK page makes no similar claim.
. . . e) The UK page displays principally three people, all male. The US page displays two people, both female.

The most clear images yet.
Are you prepared? Looking at these photos, I can't be sure, myself. The rear end looks promising. But the rest... *slight cringe*
I hope this is a success for Ford. 300-mile BEV at (perhaps) reasonable price points could be a disruption.

.
It's here!
Or rather... it's been leaked prior to the official launch scheduled for Sunday.
0 to 60 MPH in less than 4 seconds. 300 miles of range (EPA test in the US). In 10 minutes of charging, you have 47 miles of range. The official name is: Mustang Mach-E. A bold move for Ford, I'd say.
