Wiesmann 'Project Gecko' due in 2020

Still want that TVR?

It seemed that progress had slowed on Wiesmann's return, given the confirmation of its return was nearly two years ago now, so it's heartening to see that steps are being made towards a resumption of production.

'Project Gecko' is the working title for this latest model; it's clear even from these images, however, that the new Wiesmann sports car will be very much in the mould of old Wiesmann sports cars. The grille is familiar, as are the shape of the headlights, the steeply raked rear end with the pod taillights and, really, the entire silhouette. Still, the distinctive aesthetic was a large part of the Wiesmann appeal before - much like a Morgan, in fact - so it's understandable that the Gecko hasn't been meddled with too much.

Beyond that, details are scarce; we knew it would use the BMW M twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 back in 2017, which should make for ferocious performance given its power potential. Wiesmann is also promising a more usable and comfortable sports car this time around, reflecting changing legislation and buyer taste.

Those interested in the Project Gecko can add their names to a waiting list today, although prices haven't been confirmed as yet. Certainly, the Gecko is a project that will be followed with some intrigue, given the fond following Wiesmann has over here - and the possibility of a 600hp return.

Excited. I have seen on Wiesmann in person and it looked amazing. I have no idea how good or bad the car actually is but it had a lot of presence and sounded great.
