Anyone else notice the smell?
Discussion
Hi all,
I've noticed lately that it doesn't seem to matter where I am driving or when to a certain degree but the strong smell of cannabis seems to be coming from quite a few cars.
It's obvious when passing people on the motorway, in cities like London, Swansea and Birmingham, in towns like Reading and High Wycombe and alarmingly even in the countryside 5 miles from my village today. It seems more prevalent after dark and once you spot which vehicle it is that stinks the standard of driving does seem to correlate with the intensity of the smell.
Is anyone else noticing that drug driving is a more common thing now and the people do it with impunity? It's just so obvious that they must be counting on there being no Police anywhere.
That kind of stacks up too, I drove from Nottingham to South Oxon a few weeks ago on a Saturday evening in a 48yo Beetle. It took me 6 hours with many breaks and the only place where I saw police was near Milton Keynes on the A road that is parallel to the M1. There were loads there. Otherwise, there was no one about to catch anyone doing anything.
Does anyone else increasingly notice the stench of drugs from other cars while driving?

Yep and seen awful driving during said journey.
I called the police non emergency number to report the driver his driving was that bad. I did not really realise why it was all over the place (usually the obvious phone issue) until stuck in traffic behind it.
It seems cocaine or cannabis are the usual problems

Have seen the affect it's had on friends (long term heavy use) so i'm not exactly for cannabis but as for smelling it out and about it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
On the handful of occasions i have been behind a car giving off the smell their driving has been fine.
On the subject of cannabis, surely with all the genetic stuff going on they can 'edit' out the smell? Seems a no brainer to me if its possible.

Lots go for the potent Skunk which leads to paranoia... and there are cannabis vapes with THC (which is part of cannabis in), and no doubt vapes can be given all sorts of generic smells. There's even some that smell more of sweets or chocolate. Police have Drug Wipe kits which gives readings from tongue and saliva, but not enough police around... you don't see Traffic Police around as much as before. On the handful of occasions i have been behind a car giving off the smell their driving has been fine.

I assume users get used to whatever they smoke and may be able to not drive any different from anyone else. TBH have smelt it more outside than coming from a car.
I’m now paranoid that I have an inferior nose! Are people really saying that from within their car, windows closed, aircon on, they can drive past another car on the motorway and smell cannabis?
What will happen to all the redundant sniffer dogs?
The answer from me is therefore no - never when driving. Very occasionally when on foot but no more now than in the past.

Totally agree with OP.... in 35 years of commuting Kent/Surrey/London by motorcycle I’ve gone from occasionally smelling weed in the High St, to getting wafts in traffic every 3-5 minutes. Scares the life out of me and totally reinforces my feelings that my fellow motorists are either out to get me or oblivious to everything and everyone

I can. Just like I can smell other things like diesel fumes or cow st if a farmer has been spreading muck on his farm. What will happen to all the redundant sniffer dogs?

It is much more noticeable on a motorbike. Used to smell it regularly on my commute across Reading town centre.
RE sniffer dogs - it smells less when it's not burning BTW

Seems to be very common these days, got a family who live next door whos lad who is about 18-19 smokes it out of his window then wafts straight into my bedroom window. Got 2 lads who turn upto Jiu Jitsu and they stink of it as well.
No good speaking to next door about it? borcy said:

Only been an issue once so far on a warm summers day its was very strong in the house, I'm also not the kind to grass (excuse the pun) so I'll just get on with my business. We did get dad some during his cancer fight to see if it helped any.

Not on the motorway perhaps, for me, but certainly in town, especially if you're going the same way as them for a bit.I don't have a problem with people who wish to, for example, smoke a little weed, have a couple of pints, or chat on their phone... however I do despair the selfishness of a fairly large percentage of people who think it's fine to mix those with driving.
