Hi all,

Was pondering about this the other day after being disappointed with one.

What's the best manual gearbox you have ever used?

I think the Mk1 Mx5 is mine, light, positive, short throw, accurate.....a joy.

You?

Cheers.

Agreed.
That box gets better the faster and harder you use it.
Driving 10/10ths on track it was a honey.

I also rated the mk2 mx5 I had and also the first gen civic type R, not sure of the code name.
Not a huge fan of the 5 speed (T9) in mine....

Lamborghini Murcielago for me. It’s a gated shifter which is such a rewarding mechanical object to use. Then you have that thumping great V12 behind you that just sings with each gear. cloud9
What was it like when cold? Are they a bugger until warm?

I’m tempted to say the box in my old M3 CSL, just to see PistonHeads go into meltdown as a result. I won’t go there though wink

It’s a good question. Been many years since I drove a 993 C2, but I seem to recall that being something of a standout for me. Not much else German springs to mind, although I enjoyed the dogleg E30 M3 gearbox
BMW boxes have never been great, right. Had a 330ci, a Z3m (better) and a 130i and none were all that, shame.
