I had uniroyals on the front car which are down to the marks anyway. Car went in for a drop link few days ago then I noticed this tyre on front left. Got loads of tread but chunk out of it.

Yes, no way that would pass an MOT.
Well that’s the thing drop link was being replaced for MOT. Retested and passed with this tyre on.

Saab 9-3 2003+?

Just a guess from the wheels. If so, they can be a bit fussy with tyre balancing and that will now be a touch out. You may get a wobble at a certain speed. I had that on some Nexens and it went away when they were replaced.

As for the condition of the tyre, I would replace it and the one on the other side so they match unless they are 6mm+ left. I never mess with tyres having had a blow out at 90mph years ago.
It’s a 9-3 2003 yes.

It has good tread on it just this chunk out of it.

I thought something was wrong car was pulling ever so slightly left. Didn’t check it until I got home and seen this tyre on.
I do need to replace the other side soon anyway. I was hoping to wait until next pay check.

i cant believe someone is asking such a question.

obviously you MUST replace this tyre.....this is dangerous.....guess what happens if your tyre bursts and your are involved in an accident where OTHERS are harmed...i dont care abo9ut you...but i dont want to be THE other.

the MOT tester´s licence should get withdrawn!!!
Interesting you say his licence should be withdrawn. It was done at a council MOT centre.

You say you had Uniroyals on the front, so they put that Continental tyre on from where?

And TBH if you have to ask it needs changing, No compromise with safety.
Had another Saab on the other ramp next to my car. It’s not even my wheel. Mine was cleaner than this one.

I will run it for a bit. The other one (uniroyal) will need changing soon it’s on 2mm now.

Interesting to see what others would do seems almost a 50/50 split from the answers.

there arent any "laws" or regulations necessary telling an expierienced automotive engineer or technician that THIS tyre is a fail and DANGEROUS!!!

a reputable workshop would have even confiscated your keys unless you would have changed the tyre.

unbeliveable that people are asking such a non-sense here....and even start discussing about such a SAFETY -relevant issue!!

you should be reported to the police driving around with a ticking timbe-bomb!!
If you knew tyre legality in aviation you would never fly again.

Ok people saying they wouldn’t drive on it.

What is worse. This tyre which is correctly inflated, I check them weekly always have.
Or
The lady I saw in the petrol station the other day. Told her about her tyre being almost flat.
I helped her pump it up as she didn’t know how to. It was at 12psi. She thanked me and said the car had been beeping at her for a couple of weeks.

Probably loads driving around with wrongly inflated tyres.

I believe you, out of interest what are the relevant headlines on aviation tyre legality?
Tread doesn’t matter can be bold. If canvass is showing can do 6 landings on it before it has to be changed. The rubber is around 2 inches thick though. Nitrogen filled to around 200psi depending on aircraft.
