£5.7m iconic Lancia collection on sale

Delta and 037 Group B machines are among six legends for sale in Campion Collection

For those wondering how the legend of Lancia is doing these days, refer to the latest offering from London's Girardo & Co showroom, which is selling six of the marque's best competition cars for $7.5 million. That's £5.7m in Sterling, or an average of just under a million per car, confirming that while the Lancia of today may not yet be great again, its rally history remains cemented in the upper realms of automotive mythology. The Delta S4 Corsa and 037 Rally Evo Group B in particular are cars that need no introduction, but that the four others each bring equal appeal emphasises what's on offer here.

The 037, for example, was '78 WRC champ Markku Ale?n's recce car for 1984, the aforementioned Delta won the 1986 Rally 1000 Miglia and there's even Lancia's bonkers 1982 ground effect Le Mans machine, the LC1 Group 6 in the pile. Potentially even more exciting is the 1984 Kylami 1000km pole-sitter, Lancia's LC2 Group C machine, because it's still eligible for competition today, should the owner fancy their chances in a twin-turbocharged V8 monster. Then there's a Group A Delta HF Integrale 8V with no fewer than 36 rally victories under its belt and the stunning Group 5 Le Mans racer from 1981, the Beta Montecarlo Turbo.

While they may come from the glory days of Lancia competition cars, rest assured that the lots in this Campion Collection - named after the wealthy businessman who presently owns them, John Campion - are no longer wearing the scars of battle. In fact, some of the machines in the collection are said to be in concours condition, although we suspect the eventual buyer will be lured in more by the history held within those lightweight panels than the shininess of the paintwork.

For those fortunate enough to be among the potential buyers, you might expect a collection of six cars this immaculate to keep increasing in value. But for PHers, that these Lancia- and Abarth-certified cars are in full working order would probably be the most valuable trait in the offering. The collection's public unveiling will take place this weekend at the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic in Florida; although with showrooms both in London and Italy, Girardo has the capacity to appropriately woo potential buyers with presentations here in Europe too, should the cars not be snapped up right away.
