Did you buy a fun car because of COVID?
Discussion
It seems that the prices of what many PistonHeads would refer to as a "toy" or "weekend" car have increased over the last 12 months. The theory on many of the groups that I lurk around on is that this is possibly due to a lot of folk accumulating funds from not going holidays, socialising, commuting etc.
Are you one of these people? had you treated yourself to something for a bit of fun?

No, but I have SORN'ed (no insurance either) my daily driver, and am using the 'weekender' 90 V8 instead.
Just last night a random chap commented while I was parked that it's nice to see an old Land Rover out and about being used 'properley' (it's covered in mud too as I was out playing last weekend).

Yep, I bought a 911. Wanted one for a long time and it fits perfectly into my life.
I don't care about values at all - if anything Covid has taught us that life is short so you need to enjoy. I will be spending the summer (and the next few years) creating lots of memories as I drive the wheels off the thing.
And burning lots of CO2 of course.

No but I sold my Boxster S for exactly this reason. I think the prices will drop accordingly in the next 12 months. So I cashed out.....
This time last year I expected the prices of used luxury items to tank along with the housing market. I was obviously completely wrong. I'm now wondering if all these people that bought things like Boxsters or camper vans will really rush to sell them for a loss in the next 12 months if they don't really need to release the money.Nope, sold the car and bought a motorbike.
No longer commute so the car was sat idle. Sold it about a year ago expecting to have to buy another when back to work properly but just hasn't happened and haven't missed the car (the wife still has a car i can use if needed).
Couple of weeks ago decided I may as well buy a bike for weekend fun, which is what I did. If I need a car in the future I'll get one but I'm not overthinking it, as someone above said, Covid has taught us life is too short to procrastinate. I try to live in the moment now.

No, but planning to do it soon. I'm saving money for it. It's good that I have soonwellphoto casinos soonwellphoto.com/ to play and I can save a lot, because it's so easy to win money there. If you want to earn about 200$ everyday you have to follow the link an make a registration and receive your welcome bonus. Have you ever tried online gambling? It's your chance if you didn't.

Yes.
Traded in a very sensible, practical and economical 2016 Civic diesel with less than 40,000 miles on the clock for a very non sensible, completely impractical and most definitely not economical BMW E89 z4 35i.
It was right at the height of the hot weather last year, i had no job (due to covid) and it just seemed like a good idea

Yup, had promised myself one for 5 years.
It also made me finally start a youtube channel and gave me a focus/kept me sane during lockdown;

Maybe I’ve just bought yours! I decided on a fun car as my other weekend toy spent most of last year not being driven during the lockdowns. The pandemic made me realise that leaving money in a bank to fester was a waste. I’d much rather buy something fun, a car I’m not worried about adding miles to (unlike my 997.2 turbo). clarki said:

I did buy a car I always wanted to own/experience in April last year already knowing my commit has stopped.
Wife is still not pleased but I am a proud owner of 2009 e90 330i in manual and 17000 miles.
Lovely, lovely car and engine. With a proper preventative maintenance schedule, you can enjoy that naturally-aspirated beauty for another 150,000 miles easily.Wife is still not pleased but I am a proud owner of 2009 e90 330i in manual and 17000 miles.
I want to pick up something similar to cherish and preserve as the ICE era begins to decline majorly. I adore a BMW inline six.
