...to your modern everyday car in terms of performance?

Was thinking about this the other night, my daily driver E220d has very similar performance to one of my childhood heroes, the Sierra Cosworth.

0-60 under 7 seconds, 150mph flat out.

Doubt very much that the Sierra would do 50mpg but don't doubt that it would probably be a whole lot more fun

When my 7yr old son is old enough to drive I wonder if whatever is the equivalent to an E220d will be doing sub 4 secs to 60mph?

Remember buying an E30 325i sport as a teenager and getting whooped in the traffic light GP by a diesel Focus.

I remember reading a (Clarkson?) review of the then new E39 528i, it stuck with me how the reviewer was saying that the 192bhp or whatever it was gave you all the performance you could ever really need on the road.
