the reason for my comments is experience of living in the peak district, which is absolutely inundated with dirt bikes at the weekends.

nothing spoils a nice walk in the hills like the stink of 2 stroke hanging in the air as a line of dirt bikes go past, accompanied by the irritating noise they make. don't get me wrong, i get exploring on dirt bikes, but just think there could be a better way of propelling them

then you get someone who has got hold of a felled tree hacking it up with a chainsaw all day. serenaded by a 2 stroke engine. lovely.

Ahhh, you're one of those NIMBYs that would move next to a race circuit, then petition the council to shut it down on the grounds of 'noise pollution' or whatever other pathetic gripe you have with it. Strange person...
erm….nope. lived here 15 years and you barely saw a dirt bike back then. there has been either an explosion of ownership, or communication of forums etc has alerted more people to 'good' places to ride.

i reckon it's 50/50 of considerate riders who will slow down and tell you how many are behind them, and those who will just blast past gobbing the loose surface out behind them. i've had the latter stop and have a go because i shook my head as they went past. no doubt everyone on here is in the former group…. of course wink

crikey, the 2 stroke keyboard warriors are legion! wonder if those who've been lovely enough to tell me to fk off would do it face to face?

just to prepare those most triggered, i have a spoiler for you. this is going to happen whether you like it or not. not a retrospective ban, but you certainly won't be able to buy a new 2 stroke powered tool/ bike/ etc in the not to distant future.

Actually, I told you to naff off, and if you want to pop round, I’d happily do it to your face.

And then I’d chase you off with my 2-stroke strimmer!

Heck, I’d even make you a nice cup of tea while you waited for me to get the damn thing started…
not you. someone did though, which i feel is a little bit of an overreaction.

so to be clear, TVRs should be cherished for ever. that's why i joined PH when it was mostly green fields.

and for 'ban', perhaps 'phased out' is a more gentle phrase as ban has clearly caused an extreme reaction for some.

as being called 'smug' (there's a lot of name calling going on), i feel it's just eyes open. if the powers that be are going to ban ICE, they sure as st are going to go after domestic power/ garden tools that use petrol.

the fact i'm irritated by users of 2 strokers on a weekly basis gives me a bias on the subject. it's a forum.

seems most are incorrectly assuming i'm suggesting a ban on off-road bikes and power tools.

Yes, come and smell this and then hear it at 11,000 rpm….it should cure you
going round a race track at full chat, i'd imaging it's a great spectacle.

Well OP, speaking as an ex Bakewell resident!

Although you live in the Peak District, you surely don't live within the Peak District National Park.
If you did you would know full well that the Peak District National Park Authority, (PDNPA), being an utterly corrupt, self-serving, unaccountable QUANGO, closed access to 90+% of all green lanes, with no mandate to do so, (apart from their own Nimbyism), no consultation and no vote!
Maybe you should move there, instant nirvana awaits you!
we're bang, smack in the middle of it wink and agreed PDNPA are an awful organisation. oh, just had a couple of pints in the joiners too.

lets be honest, i've miffed fans of blue smoke spewing contraptions as much as they have me and that's the end of it. it'll pass. it's just an internet forum and last time i checked i didn't have the power to make such decisions. i'm nowhere near corrupt enough for a governmental post, so i'll just have to wait for the things to be phased out.
