I've been asked to teach a friend's son to drive. They want to pay me a small amount for my time. I'm not an ADI so understand this is technically illegal.

In reality, is this going to be a problem? I'm not advertising myself as an instructor or doing it as a business. It's just a favour which they're basically covering my costs for.

Any thoughts?

It's not illegal to supervise a learner driver, and you don't need to be an ADI to do so.

Just make sure that you comply with the law yourself when supervising, such as not using a mobile phone whilst the learner is driving, as you can get a ticket as a supervisor.
Thanks. It was the payment aspect I was worried about. It'll be minimal, and I suppose pretty hard to prove.

Or it would have been, had you not started a thread on a popular online forum...
Fortunately I don't have "seargentstingray" printed on my car!
