Dink's blog part 1

Oh yes, we had a good one today. Teaming up at Harry's farm to see some hidden automotive treasures. What can you expect: a steaming Merlin-engined Bentley, a V16 Caddy racer with a cam as long and viscious as a Jedi-sword, a flame-throwing Spitfire mill and more . . .

Ready?

Harry's Viper can't be missed out. Nice Cobra-striping added. His quiet village had some noisy visitors today. A bit like a month ago we all parked in familiar Ibis-stylee.

The farmhouse has a 15th century basis and the front-end is 18th century. Inside it's an effing museum! Lovely and warm welcome with coffee and pies. A hole for a crapper and sleeping in the closet!

Over 500 year old oaks there! Tractors and stuff, huge pile of owl shite . . .

. . . and a smokey HD to signal we had to go to the real thing: the scrapyard.

But not before I took some pics of the precious metal around. I love those old machines. Massey Ferguson here.

This one is a bit quicker: Cor's big Merc, wheel is repaired BTW.

GTRene's Hartge. The only one in Holland.

It's effing fast and gorgeous too. Sounding like a million Dollars.

It was good to see you René thumbup We'll meet when the sun shines and the tarmac is ready for us. I owe you a fine set of pics mate.

But this is it: the Bent with the Centurion Tank engine in . . .

Yup, that's an RR allright.

Jay Leno's Tankcar is blinged up and Harry's one is functional. Nuff space there!

Everyone wants a pic of it.

Up next: more utterly gorgeous stuff.

NB: don't post that red thingy you Dutch guys!

It is . . . and it's ready to raise hell at the local Tesco's.

Pic's of this baby 'at fire' soon. There'll be some vids soon.

Peter, can you collect the lot? I don't have the full overview.

Ultimate TR-vehicle me thinks. On a summer's day though!

Now what did you guys miss! I'll ask Harry if he will take his beasties out at Wim's Klassiekerrally

Dink's blog part 2

Now before we got to Harry's workshop we did a 30 min stint and of course I couldn't shove my 1.6 307 in the fast travelling convoy . . . BUT I was a little dissapointed about the M3's and Cupra's doing the twisties . . . C'mon guys, next time I want to have a hard time keeping up. Braking is for panzies . . .

Now there was more to see, like this Volpi Caddy V16 beastie. Gorgeous details.

A genuine racer, it looks bigger in the metal.

Not just some regular big block . . .

That car has appeal . . . Harry says it's not that difficult to drive. Braking is a bit so-so.

He had some Jags: an E-type and this XK140 ready to work on.

Dropdead stunning Aston DB2 . . . Most conversions will get the 3 litre, better brakes and wheels, comfy interior.
I need one in that colour . . .

Making Astons better is Harry's speciality. From 50s DB2's too 70's V8's they were all there in bits 'n pieces.

So much to see there . . .

. . . shelves full of racket. But beautifull just the same . . . Art really. loved that place.

And I wasn't the only one. About 70 Driving-Fun members and friends and family wandered about and enjoyed a good afternoon of automobilia and coffee 'n pie.

Next: a closer look at that Bent.

Dink's blog part 3

I love the detailing on this kit, like these tiny rearlights. The finish is rough all in the spirit of the cars appearance and the scale and proportions are spot on.

While GTRene checks out Harry's RR-knowledge I just drool over this ultimate HotRod. The period wired exhausts, the fighterplane stylee cockpit, the comfy seat . . . it's all there and it's a one off built by a man passionate about making it. It took Harry about 7 years to create this beast. Forget John Dodds and make a big bow to this character.
The 27 litre Centurion tank engine has downsized torque to keep up with a reasonable clutch. In a 3 to 1 ratio the torque is only about 650 Nm now. 2000 Nm is just too much! The power output still looks a bit huge for the relatively small wheels. I'd fancy a ride thank you very much, just to find out about that.

Harry can tell a story, down to earth and without any exageration. I sheer contrast to the machinerie he puts his soul in.
He told me about blowing up one of his Merlins, and showed me the banks. The big ends snap and the heads get stuck. So the RR won't blast and the fighterpilot can glide all the way and land safely. Pretty smart engineering.

Rene is still listening: "I made the injection stuff to fit the engine with ordered bits from the US. I called the factory because they poured petrol instead of atomizing gas. WTF you expect, it's a 27 litre thingy!"

"Ready to shake some earth?"

It takes a few revs to get her out of beautysleep.

No flames captured by me - thank gawd Dennis did that just perfect! - but smoke . . .

. . . sometimes unburned petrol just flowed straight through and exploded somewhere in the exhaust. So an occasional bang 'n flame or an occasional pop 'n effing smokecurtain.
I had the wrong program here hence the 'off' colouring.

Nuff . . . Harry likes to sail too. He has a small wooden pretty and a way bigger typical Zuiderzee 'botter'. I didn't see the diesel in place so it must be a restauration project as well. But what do you Philistines care

One of the handfull DB2's in progress. In front of a late 70's V8 ready for Harry's son.

This will be a magnificent 475 hp Oscar India within months. He showed me the 48DCOE double Webers. It's an auto though . . . if I were him I'd search for a nice 6-speed to match. Excellent choice!

Next: more old stuff and a [url]Spitfire-engine|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Ro[/url} ready to throw some flames.

Well there's more to see Graeme. And give me a call when you're around. It's about 70 mins from where I live.

Dink's blog part 4

Lot's of stuff, like bits of unfinished business here. Waiting for another Merlin to drop in maybe.

This E will eventually turn into sheer beauty. Check out the bird's nest.

This Mini Cooper will be a mint one this year. Customer will pay 35k to get it as specced as a C can be.

It's time to get the real Merlin started.

Aram helps out to hotwire the bastit . . .

Jerry Bootsma takes care of the intakes. Thunder coming from a few cilinders every now and then.

WTF is wrong, I want to raise some hell! Crowd is recording . . .

Blooming feck what a beauty!

It took a few mins to idle. Finally it kept going . . .

. . . spits of evil and coughs of smoke . . .

. . . and even an occasional flame . . .

. . . right, there's one!

Next: rolling out the Caddy V16.

Perfect MobRod . . . A pair of sidepipes would suit this bitch.

So we had our share of Meteor-engined Bent . . .

. . . that'll leave the Volpi Caddy V16 to fire up then.

No starter-engine on this one. Pushed by the DF-posse to come alive this beastie had her own snarl.

Smoke coming from all over . . . camera's snapping and vidcams recording.

Waiting to get all figures right. Pebble Beach my arse! I love the used-look.

Dad giving a bit of last instruction here. Those drums may look big, they don't do nothing much . . .

Shift into first to have a short blast around the properties.

Remember, don't get past 5k sonny.

Partyondudes Scoob here.

Next: V16 on the move!

Just two more episodes guys . . .

Dink's blog part 6

I love those Seat's, especially in black.

Thirsty bastit needed some gas first, before the blast around Harry's place.

Lovely moving action when Jerry stepped on it. Every car should have an open front just to see some tasty bits.

Let's go! Gawd does it sound good. It lacks the sophistication of a period Bug but there's certainly a distant hint of muscle car-ness in the beasts soundbyte.

Moving bits in the cockpit as well! The seat is a ladies purse stuffed with whatever providing some comfort.

It looks small in there but it's not, the car is just pretty big! Also here, the brakes are not much . . .
Harry:"You have to adjust your driving to the car." Mind your arms!

Now there's a badge. Veyron go home . . .

Love the details. I gotta say deep down cars like these are it for me.

Maybe it is because everything looks so simple and easy. It's man-machine without anything in between.

Nice Jaeger dials. This Caddy is a rough daddy. No dandy, but a ratty hell-raiser.

Ready to terrorize the streets.

Just the thought 75 years ago folks raced these things . . .

Oh yes.

Lovely Aston in progress.

This one needs to be done.

Peter told me he even sleeps in his hoodie. Never washes it, he's addicted to the smell of Castrol and RON 98.

Last picture of that beast.

I brought dad - 4th from the right, talking to Harry here - who had a massive good time. You'll see him every now and then.

Next: scratchchin finish some effing reviews!
