1980's Autocar and Whatcar? Road Tests scans
Discussion
Don't know if any of you on here would be interested but over the last few months I've been scanning and uploading a load of my old Whatcar?, CAR, Autocar and Motor magazines road tests from 1955 to 1990ish to flickr.
It's taken ages so far and I'm not even halfway through yet!, My wife thinks I'm sad! (I think she's right but i tell her she doesn't understand...!)
You need to login to view them in full size (It's free to sign up though is you haven't before) But theres loads (Over 300) of interesting ones including, BMW M3 E30, Sierra RS500 Cosworth and Mk1 Golf GTi.

Um, you do know Haymarket own Autocar and PH don't you?
Do they? Wouldn't thought it be a problem though as they are obsolete tests now and I'm not doing it for profit. Thanks for the heads-up though.

Those are fantastic, what scanner do you have as I need to scan my mags at some point.
Just a HP PSC 1510, Had it a couple of years but it does the job.Edited by dockertrigger on Saturday 28th March 20:26

How do you make the pictures bigger?
You need to sign up to flickr, It's free so don't worry, then when your logged in click on the all sizes tab at the top of the picture you want to see to make it bigger, It will be fully readable then!. :-)Your all welcome, I've updated it a bit more, Got the Ferrari Testarossa test now plus the Aston Martin Virage Test uplaoded plus tons more!.

You sir are a legend! this should be a sticky!
Thanks! *Blushes* Don't think they would do that though as i think autocar & What Car? both belong to the same company that own Pistonheads (Haymarket) and they might get funny over the copywrite.Got loads of What car? Magazines to go though now, Might start again on Monday.

Thanks guys, Just thought I'd quickly add that you can view my collections here http://www.flickr.com/photos/7869726@N02/collectio... which helps you to search specifically which magazine to look at and if you want to add me as a contact so you can find my pictures easier then feel free! :-)
Done a few more today including a Lotus Excel Vs Porsche 944 test & Aston Martin V8 Vantage test all from 1984.

Thanks Dockertrigger - that's a fair bit of scanning you've done there.
Nothing like as comprehensive as yours but I scanned a few Performance Car reviews here ...

Would you mind if I posted a link to your scans on the 205GTIDrivers site?

I've started to upload a load of 60's and 70's Motor and Autocar reviews from some magazines i brought at the Beaulieu Autojumble at the weekend.
So far I've done the Bond Bug, Jaguar E-Type, a few Rover P5 and P6 models and a Ford Zodiac if anyone is interested.

Nice ST24
Thanks!, sadly it had to go due to the depressing fuel bills Was a nice car though.NiceCupOfTea said:
Brilliant stuff - just spent an hour reading the 3 Saab 900 tests! Interesting to see some of the contradictions in the reviews - one praised the excellent ventilation and heating, another criticised it!
Interesting looking back 20+ years though - 180bhp was serious power, and 0-60 of 8 secs was epic!
Check out the BMW 3.0S Scan I've done, that was 37 odd years ago and was doing them times!.Interesting looking back 20+ years though - 180bhp was serious power, and 0-60 of 8 secs was epic!

Just thought I'd bump this thread!
I've updated the road tests a lot lately and now starting to scan in all my Motor magazine tests.
Remember you have to log in to see the pages in full, readable size.

All the CAR tests so far uploaded are here http://www.flickr.com/photos/triggerscarstuff/coll...
Thank You

I have the 60's & 70's CAR book, It's a good read, I doubt i bother buying the 80's book though as i have nearly all the issues from the 80's of CAR!.
It would be nice to of made a proper website with all my scans but i haven't clue how to make websites plus i was worried about the copyright thing so just stuck with flickr, Seems to work well.

My word that is a very kind gesture!
It's nice to be given some gratitude for doing the scans due to the amount of time it takes and effort involved, Sometimes i wonder if it's worth it but then I'll get a comment from someone that makes it worth it and yours is one of them.
If you feel the need to make a donation then i would chose the East Anglian Air Ambulance or Essex Air Ambulance, They helped to try and save my grandmothers life a few years ago (Sadly she never made it though) as well as 1000's of other people, A charity close to my heart.
