1150bhp RS200 Guns For Pikes Peak Record

Essex-based team aims to be the first to complete Pikes Peak in less than 10mins

Ford might be aiming to give the Fiesta some major publicity when it tackles the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this weekend in an 800bhp Fiesta with rally ace Marcus Gronholm at the wheel, but Ford is facing some tough challengers, not least from its own past.

Essex-based Mach 2 Racing is entering a Ford RS200 packing a genuinely terrifying 1150bhp in an attempt to be the first team to crack the 10-minute barrier.

The car, driven by former double British Rallycross champ Mark Rennison, is gunning for current record holder Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima, who set a time of 10m 01.408s back in 2007 at the wheel of a 1000bhp Suzuki XL7.

The Mach 2 RS200, which has been developed specifically for the Pikes Peak run, puts 950bhp through its Avon tyres courtesy of some very high-octane fuel and a Garrett turbocharger. A 70-litre nitrous tank takes the power up to 1150bhp.

Rennison is confident that he and the RS200 can be the first pairing to finish the 12-mile 156-turn course in les than 10 minutes: “If everything on the day goes right and the weather conditions are good beating the 10-minute barrier shouldn’t be a problem. But strange things happen at Pikes Peak, it’s a unique event.”

Practice for this year’s Pikes Peak hillclimb runs from 15-17th July, with the single timed run up the full course on Sunday 19th July.

stunning car! was in CCC some years ago. to stop the turbo stalling they vented he BOV air into the exhaust. when combind with the anti-lag there was NO lag! smile

and now they have N2O on top! lol

I don't understand how venting BOV gases (themselves a function of the required level of boost being reached) venting into the exhaust (presumably pre-turbo going by the point you were trying to make) will hasten spool. Anti lag on it's own should be sufficient, or possibly a shot of nitrous at low revs should get the job done.

Greg
The BOV does not bleed off excess boost pressure on full throttle, it vents boost pressure in the intercooler and pipework when you come off the throttle during a gear change. If that excess air is vented to the exhaust manifold pre-turbo, it can be combined with a shot of fuel and a retarded spark that blows right through the exhaust valves as they open and ignites in the exhaust manifold, keeping the turbo spinning during the gearchange.
well said mate, well said.. ..ps why do you have a cute name?

  • wonder if this venting into pre-turbo exhaust business would work on less pressurised turbo's??? Anyone tried?
or for that matter, heavy boost evo's with diabolical turbo lag..

I think this probably doesn't fully cure the lag but just make it a lot better since they are still using 2.0 lt engines!

You got it chaps! supposed to work a treat acording to CCC when they drove the car.

Also have a look for the scooby 'rocket box' think its a similar thing only they add fuel to!!!! wink

Cheers

Just doing some calculations....

People say that a 100bhp shot of N2O will use 1lbs of N2O every 10 seconds.

Now this RS200 is useing making an additioanl 200bhp on the gas thats 2lbs every 10 seconds.

So for the 3min they want to use it they will use...36lbs of gas!

Tajima's Suzuki has around 1000bhp, Millen's Celica which held the previous recrod for 13 years had 950. They wouldn't have that level of power if it didn't make a difference.

Its worth remembering while they may make that power at the bottom of the hill it'll be less at the top due to the lack of oxygen at that altitude - I think the nitrous is being used to try and compensate for that in the upper part of the run.

Beaten to it! hehe

It worked for WW2 fighter aircraft! the German ME109s had to run it to chase the Spitfire Recon planes (fully striped of guns and alot of the armor to really lighten the aircraft. Plus the merlins/grifith engines produced alot more power).

Some of the drives use O2 towards the top of the hill. i think i would just use the N2O! lol

Is that 1,150bhp from 2 litres? That's incredible, that's 4.6 times the specific output of a Veryon.

The Pikes Peak Escudo was the best car in Gran Turismo 2, I got over 300mph out of it on the test track.

Good Luck guys, be great for the RS200 to win it, what a legend!
See a post by myslef above that give you links to Mahc 2's website.

The new engine is a 2.4.
