Ginetta has released this sneak preview of its new G40 race/road car, which will be revealed in completed form at Autosport International - alongside the PistonHeads Performance Car Show - at the NEC in January.

The photographs show the G40's compact fibreglass coupe body pattern, as well as its rolling chassis, for the first time at Ginetta's Leeds factory.

Lawrence Tomlinson, Ginetta Chairman, is pictured sitting in the G40 prototype's chassis, and is typically bullish about the new machine:

"Production is well under way - as you can see the roll cage is incredibly substantial, well in excess of the minimum requirements set by the FIA. Production of the bodywork is going really well and images of the pattern give a good indication of how the final car is going to look," he says.

Ginetta says it has been overwhelmed by demand for its latest launch, having secured 26 orders already. The G40 will make its competitive debut next April on grids at Ginetta's Junior Championship.

The 1.8-litre Ford Zetec engined-car will replace the existing Junior model, with the likes of defending champion Sarah Moore taking to the track in the all-new vehicle.

Tomlinson, who raced with Nigel Mansell at this year's Le Mans Series finale at Silverstone added: "Everyone is going to have to wait until January 14th for the first look at the Ginetta G40 when we unveil it at Autosport International - I can't wait!"

Does the road car chasis have a less comprehensive roll cage? Looks like a pig to get in and out of with the hight of those side bars. Not a problem for a race car obviously but a factor to put of road car customers.

Never mind, lad, they'll do one with a walking stick rack for we ageing and less flexible petrol-heads.biggrin
Haha I hope so. Dont know why I complain, having previously owned a GTM Coupe and a Mini Marcos youd think Id be used to it. G40 looks to have an even smaller posting hole than an Exige tho.

Wonder if theywill do me a Zimmer Frame roof mount aswell smile
