I thought it was time for some more porn, so the idea of this thread is to post up a droolsome snapshot of the car you consider to be the very essence of what motoring is all about, and which you would recommend to somebody as the ultimate 'essential' car. That one motor nobody should go through life without experiencing!

It hasn't got to be classy, fast, beautiful or hand-assembled by naked one-legged vietnamese dwarves. It's just got to be something that you consider to be the absolute shizzle! Road or Track, large or small, old or new. It matters not smile

The rules:

No biting, scratching, bhing, moaning or gouging. No picking on the bloke that chooses an American Car. Or a Porsche hehe

You must post a picture. Try and keep them a reasonable size. If you want to agree or comment on another post, make sure you find another picture, even if it's a different shot of the same car.

You must give a reason for your choice.

Let's have a nice thread that doesn't descend into squabbling for a change.

I'll start:

16 valve Golf... I've had one before and it's the one car I still get withdrawal symptoms over. I never should have sold it (Not my one in the pic btw).

They are light, well engineered, easy/cheap to maintain and will never let you down. They'll soak up massive mileages without skipping a beat. They are as practical as a 3 door hatch can be, and they do all of this while putting a huge grin on yer fizzog biggrin

Memories of cocking the inside rear wheel, merrily bouncing off the rev limiter and of all the attention it garnered from pretty young things with loose knicker elastic. cloud9

Re: Porsche 911

I've always had a hankering for the 'limited edition' Turbo that was in 'Bad Boys'. What actually makes a 911 so good though?

I'm going to post a second...

I'm still a bit sore, as the cheque from the insurer just came through frown

Jaguar X308 XJR (RIP!)

This was honestly the most complete car I've ever had the pleasure of owning. 380bhp supercharged V8, whisper quiet, brutal performance, sublime handling and a fabulous interior.

Yet for all it's power and agility, this was a car that had a ride like a limousine. Stunning.

One of the most composed saloon cars ever made. bowtie

K.I.A by a lorry and standing water 7/11/2009. Gone but not forgotten frown

Now I realise that the man isn't right even half the time... but Clarkson gave the C4 a right bashing. I must confess I've never driven one, although I've had a few blasts in my Dad's old Camaro Z28 (same lump but detuned iirc) and that was brilliant, if a bit of a handful!

What are they actually like to drive? I accept that they sound the nuts biggrin

Just been out fiddling with my new numberplates, and come back to find a thread stuffed with porn. Loving that F40, if not the most attainable of machines biggrin

Beardo, they are fantastic! A stripped out, no frills hot hatch. Take one for a hoon down some B roads and you'll see what the fuss is about. My mate nearly bought one about 7 years ago, but went for a 306XSi instead. What a disappointment!

1.3 giving 103bhp in a lightened version of a car that had amazing handling as standard?

Yes please yum

That Charger look awesome. No words, 'cos none are needed!

True back-to-basics, no frills, RWD fun. Suddenly there's more space on the roads, and you can drive as fast as you like without worrying about speed limits. There's so much feel through the unassisted steering and brakes, and it's so light and responsive it makes any other car (apart from a 7...I guess) feel like a truck.

Also +1 for the XJR.
My MGB GT is a bit like that... not dynamically brilliant, or fast, or even particularly glamorous. It just puts a grin on my face and I can charge around double declutching and blipping the throttle to my hearts content.

It also makes me warm and fuzzy inside when people ask if it's my car and how pretty it is cool

Instead of becoming the sad old boy alone with his memories, I've started the "Car you miss the most" thread.

Right... I'd say the majority of suggestions have been a bit mainstream - certainly for a bunch of petrol heads. Any oddball suggestions? smile

Isn't Monteverdi the only swiss car manufacturer? You forgot to list the reasons you'd like one!

And that SZ cloud9

A classic car dealer I once worked for had one in for mere hours before it was shipped off somewhere exotic. ears

There's Rinspeed and Sbarro as well.
Weren't they just conversions?

AFAIK Monteverdi put together Italian coachwork with American V8's (Buick?).

Could be totally wrong of course!

Just realised Rinspeed are the people that make the underwater Elise cool

And Sbarro make stuff like this:
