Hello

Ok here it goes. 2 days ago i bought a car at a auction. The car came with number plates on it.

The thing is i wanted to do a hpi check on the car and the hpi company's kept saying they cant get the car details. so i rang the dvla and gave them the reg number and they said the number plate that is bolted to the car is no longer assigned to the car as it had a private plate on it from new to now.

so it would seem the old owner has just taken the private plate transferred it to their new car and just bolted the old reg back on.

So i have a car with no number plate belonging to it.

The young lady at the dvla did not seem to know what to do. She said to send of a v888 form. The thing is a v888 is just a form about getting details about the car.

She has told me the plate on the car has been destroyed.

I am going to contact the auction company but cant till Monday.

When you remove a private number plate do the dvla not give the car a new number number plate or put the old one back on ?

TIA
I am not driving the car at the moment as it has no tax.

Sorry i did not explain it very well.
The old owner has transfered their private number plate and is on their new car at the moment. but my car has no reg belonging to it. It just has the plate bolted to it that was on it when the car left the showroom (Not the old owners private plate) but it is no longer assigned to my car.
Hope that makes sense.

You see thats the thing the dvla have told me there is no number plate belonging to the car at the moment. The old owners private number plate has been re transfered to their new car and my car has no number plate belonging to it.

The old owner has transfered the prive plate as when i try to do a hpi on the private plate it comes back as on a vw touran. My car is a honda s2000. The plate bolted to my s2000 at the moment is the generic plate not the privte plate. I only know the car had a private plate as the dvla told me and is on the service book. I think the dvla have messed up.

Yep something very odd is going on.
To do a hpi you need the reg as well
I thought the old reg would have went back on aswell but it seems that reg has been destroyed by the dvla
