What direction should I fit the fuel filter in. I've taken the old one out, just put the new one in, didn't realise before but looking at it that it seems to be directional. It's a clear plastic in line filter. At one end the filter is hard up against the perspex body, at the other end there is what I can only describe as an air gap between the filter and the perspex body. My question is which end goes towards the carbs and which the fuel pump/tank.

(Car Is a 1974 mgbgt btw)

There's normally an arrow somewhere on the filter, this goes in the direction of the fuel flow iirc.
Bloody hell, there is! It was facing downwards the way I had fitted it, (that's my excuse anyway, you would have thought I'd have realised to look for some markings). Lady luck is shining on me today though as it seems to have gone in the right way round, time to tighten up some hose clips

Thank you very much.

hope this helps

The filter element should point into the flow so that even if it clogs with muck or water and collapses it will collapse in on itself and help prevent crud getting into your vital bits
I knew there would be some logic to it. Thanks once again for all your help. The fuel filter is now all changed and tightened up. It went considerably better than the oil filter change, the three quarters of a gallon or so of oil under the car is testament to that... I'll save the details for another thread next week when I try and sort it all out!
