Sorry, another number plate valuation thread...

Firstly, I'm not trying to sell this, it belongs to the OH's Grandma, who does want to sell it. I'd quite like to buy it for my OH, as it was her late Grandad's plate, but need a fair valuation?

The number is KWB66. I was thinking it must be worth at least a couple of grand, but having looked on the DVLA's site, 2KWB sold in June for just £2700. Any ideas folks?

2KWB is a world away from KWB66.

The less digits, the higher the value. Basically, you are looking for a "Ken William Barlow" born in 1966 to be bidding against a "Keith Willhelm Blackbeard" also born in 1966, to make a decent price.
I know, that's why my initial guestimate of £2k is obviously too high. So how much, £1000? I could probably tell her it's worth £100 and get it for that, but I don't want to rip off an old lady. smile

Dragging up my very old number plate thread.

I never did buy this plate as it was given to a grandson in the end, who put it on his car for a while before transferring it onto retention.

I'm told he then didn't pay the annual fee and the DVLA subsequently took the plate off him. I cannot check with the grandson to see if this is what happened (there are some family issues...), but my MIL says she has spoken to the DVLA who confirmed this to be the case. Certainly, it's not showing as being on a vehicle at the moment.

So, my question is, is the plate now lost for good or can/would the DVLA reissue the plate? I have seen it for sale on a couple of websites, but this doesn't necessarily mean they own it or even have access to it.

Dragging up this old thread again. I spotted KWB66 for sale on Regtransfers for £8995!

https://www.regtransfers.co.uk/search/platedetails...

I thought it odd, because the MIL said that DVLA had taken the reg back after the retention fee wasn't paid, so I asked DVLA myself, and got this reply:

Dear LeighW,

Thank you for your enquiry received on 8/10/2019.
Your case reference number is 01840712.

We appreciate that you have taken the time to contact us in relation to this matter.

We are currently unable to re-release registration's for sale after they have been voided.

The registration in question K**66 has a grantee on the record and we would not be able to advise how they came into possession of this registration.

I hope this information provides a further insight for you.

Best Regards

So am I to assume that someone has been telling porkies, and that maybe said Grandson is trying to make a quid? I'd like to buy this plate for my wife (her Gran passed away this year), but not at £8995. Maybe £3k.
