As some of you are aware, my wife is very ill and in all reality hasn't got very long to live - probably a matter of a few weeks.

Now this is very hard for me to write and it is not something that I ever thought I would ask, but PH, I want to do something very special for her.

She has always been a fan of Corvettes, little red 63 or 69 corvettes in fact. it was part of our plan one day to have one or the other, but as this is unlikely to happen, I would like somehow to at least have her sit in one, blip the throttle at least, or have one close by enough to touch.

Now I don't know anyone with such a car, but I am hoping that someone here on PH does.

I know it would make her day and if it can be done it would be amazing.

can someone here help me make this happen?

I don't know what to say.

Today lily moved to the hospice in Brighton... it's been a hell of a day and i'm only just getting my head around all of this.

PH, I don't know what to say, this has all left be utterly gob smacked. I am truly stunned by all your offers of kindness.

I would love to take Lily to a dealer, but the reality is she can't go anywhere at the moment. she had to go by ambulance to the hospice - I wasn't even allowed to take her the 3 miles myself.

I would love Lily to be able to be in one - even if it meant 'just' sitting the drivers seat, I know it's something that would mean a huge amount to her.

I'm not sure what to do next guys, you are all so willing and full of bright ideas - can this be made to happen over the next couple of weeks?

Thankyou PH, I am truly blown away by you extraordinary offers and your kindness. I already sted once tonight - and I have no idea wher that post went, but the more I think about this the more I realise this is perhaps not the best thing to do right now. We've just moved to a hospice, we've just started a new chapter in our weird and wonderful cancer 'adventure' and to be perfectly honest I think this will all be too much right now. I realised today when she had to go the handful of miles in an ambulance it's probably not the right thing to be doing on a freezing December day.

I sincerely hope I haven't wasted your time, I realise this is my hopes and dreams escaping the reality of our present situation. If I have wasted any of your time I sincerely apoogise, but I think maybe i'm asking too much. I know she would be thriled, but I realised today it would be entirely the wrong timing.

I can't thank you enough PH for going to all your efforts, I am blown away by your responses, I truly am, but I think for now this is a dream too far.

thankyou for all yourkind offers. Ii think that I would rather the best wishes and wonderful generosity of PH go to the hospice that Lily is in and the Cancer centre that every day help so many people.

I need to talk to the hospice admin tomorrow to work out how this can happen and I love the idea of a parade of cars turning up. PH, this is wonderful. Lily would be the first to say that if some good can come out of her cancer then that itself diminishes the effect of cancer.

I will reply when I know more.

thank you so much for even entertaining these ideas.

righto, two things.

firstly, let me talk to hospice bods in morning re how best to do this. TBO i'd rather not receive any donations or handle any monies myself.

secondly, i've kepted this from lily until today, but gobby here blabbed this evening.......

'I need my haircut and I need some proper clothes' ....

.... and her grin from r to ear...

... and her writing 'I love you lots' on my arm with her fingers....

gentlemen, ladies, cars it is, looks like anything american (corvettes would be ace) and loud will do... the bigger louder and brighter the better, because you know a girl has certain standards to maintain!

Right, spoken to the hospice this afternoon. All good for a turn up. They will do their best to accommodate our needs and more importantly you!

There is a lovely big carpark and we were thinking Saturday 11th December . any later and it bumps into the last few days of xmas shopping etc.

Lily wil be thrilled if any of you guys and girls turn up and there is a big comfortable room for you to sit and chat...it's a lovely place.

I am just so thrilled that this is even being considered and thank you all so much. This already feels like it will be something very special indeed.

With respect to donating, the hospice are already on justgiving and give me a few days to sort out and I will put a link up to our page. Thank you all so much for your extraordinary generosity. Forgive me if I don't always reply quickly, there is a lot going on at the moment and everything web wise takes so much longer on a phone.

I have a very smiling Lily today and last night. For reasons that are perhaps obvious, I cannot do any of the things that I wanted to do with my darling girl and doing this means the world to me.

Can we keep a tally list of people coming as the hospice need some idea of numbers. Can we do that on this thread somehow starting with the first person?

Loud and large, that's the only criteria and she'll be grinning from ear to ear!

Thank you seems such tiny words, but really, thank you all.

There is also a tunnel two miles away in the A27 at Southwick. Not very long, but 'cozy' enough to allow for microscopic fractures in the concrete ..

Like I said brum brum

thank you for donatingdirectly - if you can do this without me having to create a web page, all the better. time is at a premium at the moment .

edit; if a page has been set up on our behalf then thank you. logical brain's a bit wonky at mo and mobile makes all this tricky!
Lucy, thank you for your offer. Lucy makes great cakes and our wedding cakes, of which there were many, went down a storm!

Thank you all so much. I am so in awe of your extraordinary kindness and gererosity of spirit.

I know lily is looking forward to it and if some of the nurses fanced 'a little spin..', would that be possible?

x fingers for a dry weekend.

Donation made - no better cause than investing on behalf of two fantastic people, who somehow together have been so positive in a situation I cannot even begin to imagine.

Thank you. I am sure Lily will have a good time. V8's and corvettes are just about the perfect combination. She always used to comment that the M5 didn't cut it noise wise and she always hankered after the big American V8 soundtrack.

I think it is amazing that everyone is being so kind-hearted and, like many have said, I wish I had a car worthy of this event and salute all of those who are getting involved.

I really don't mean to come across rude here, and this is not directed at anyone specific (I realise that everyone that has offered money/their car in attendance has done so with extreme kindness and the very best of intentions) but the perhaps some of the cars are less suitable than others if the theme is/was Noisy American Muscle cars?

Just a thought (and perhaps 'quanity' trumps 'pure quality' on this occasion - who knows?)

hippy
Could you ask madam if she would prefer the very noisy Mustang or the rather quiet Camaro?
Mustang ? --> blink
Camaro ---> no blink

Mustang ?? --> blink blink blink

I have been following the original thread about Lily's illness but never felt I had anything to add so never posted. I then started reading this thread the other night when my OH went for a shower. When he came out, he found me actually sobbing and took me ages to explain why.

Russel and Lily's situation tugs at the heart strings anyway, just like many other people (in my family and friends too) who are in similar situations, but the movement of people on Pistonheads to make her dream come true is awe inspiring and shows human nature at it's most wonderful. There are many threads with arguments etc on Pistonheads but then you get this.

Whilst I love my little car, it would not add value within this amazing company and I don't have much money but wanted to contribute a small amount in tribute to everyone making this happen. I have donated on virgin (only small amount but small amounts can add up!)

To Russell and Lily, and everyone involved, you have touched my life and inspired me to try somehow and make a difference in other people's lives.
.. that you take the time to write is more than enough. We are truly grateful for the support and kindness you have offered. Life needs money to lubricate the physical living, but it's the human in us that makes life worth living. You show that plenty enough. Thank you.
