Babies and 2 seater cars.....

Friend of mine is having his first child this year and is being badgered by his missus to get rid of his 350Z as it is not suitable as his only car when the baby comes....
She has a Focus for the family duties.
What do you PHer parents do in this situation? Have you worked around having a 2-seater? I guess the main issue is if the 4 seater car breaks or needs to be garaged for any reason.
He is fairly resigned to getting rid of it (very reluctantly) so is also working out what 4 seater he could get for £8k-ish that would remain PH-like and be fun to drive...with "reasonable" running costs i.e. similar to the 350Z.
I suggested RX-8 or Mazda 6 MPS.....any other suggestions?
