£10k Summer Toy
Discussion
Let's say you had in the region of £10k to play with (maybe stretchable up to £15k for something worthwhile) to buy a convertible for 4 months.
You don't want it to cost a fortune in depreciation, it must be very reliable and not have much by way of costs over the ownership period (economy/tax is irrelevant but nothing prone to major breaks) - just the most fun car to drive for the summer period while getting most of the money back afterwards.
Fire away with what you'd get? The MX-5 is the obvious one, but what else? Let's hear your suggestions! Nothing older than 3/4 years though please.
Cheers

What do we think of this?

Z4 M Roadster for £16k, how much should I expect to lose over 4 months and selling at the end of summer after about 6k miles?

Given that not much goes wrong with them you'll be spending the summer driving it, not fixing it. Plenty of low-milegage cars in your budget too.

Yup I'm liking it, now to just work out which engine is where the money is, I do like the idea of the M Roadster though, it just looks better!http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/
It's a stop-fill car I'm looking at if I were to sell my V8 Vantage Roadster now before buying something else at the end of summer when supercar prices come down again.
I am doubting in my ownership of the car it will need a service, so I'm purely looking at the knock on the price of another owner and a few thousand miles.

If thats the case and you dont want to miss the V8 vantage roadster, then the SLK55 has as much go from its 5.5L V8 and sounds similarily good, there are a few around for £16-£18k.
If you want something as close to depreciation proof then you probably want an early facelift boxster, a well priced S2000 or an early manual SLK350.

Good thinking, the only downside is my Mother has an SLK350 and it wouldn't really fit to have the same car! Although her new model is due in July.If you want something as close to depreciation proof then you probably want an early facelift boxster, a well priced S2000 or an early manual SLK350.

More options to add to the list but I've found a rather nice Z4M Roadster on BMW approved used that I like the look of. The Aston advert is now up on PH and will be on Auto Trader tonight so I'll wait for that to go before I go to see replacements.
