Right guys bit of a advice required I have sold my TVR Tamora which is being picked up on Saturday frown . I loved the Tamora but due to starting a business requiring the garage space at my parents house I needed to sell and get something that can sit on the drive more practically (hardtop) and get in the multi storey car park for when I go back to University in October. . I was thinking of getting a Z4m Coupe but then I stumbled across an SLK55 AMG and cannot stop looking and pictures of them. I am viewing two at the weekend one silver and one black. I also will really miss the sound of my Tamora with its sports exhaust the AMG sound very good (of course not better than a TVR) I ultimately want a manual 996 turbo but I dont think £23k would get me one worth having. SL55 is also an option but in my price range again would struggle to get an example as good as an SLK

So what would your thoughts be on the decision between an slk55 and a z4m. Any help would be greatly appreciated from owners/previous owners etc.. Other reccomendations are welcome

Thanks in advance!

Dan

CSL was another one on my mind but I can only find ones with high mileage for my budget. Would prefer to only spend 20k so can have some more cash to invest in my business and I think a CSL for 20k would be very ropey/cat d/ moon and back miles.. Looked at Porche 911 C4S's too, thanks for the responses so far

PS. I am yet too hear an SLK55 AMG in the flesh so I may be corrected in the videos they do sound awesome!!!

I had a 330ci m sport couple years ago and dont really want to be stuck behind the same dash.... I like to change cars every few months. I have enough to invest in the business at the level its at now as I am at university so don't want to be running a huge business if it will affect my final year at uni. So got until next June time to play with a few cars before I invest the whole money. I nearly bought a Noble M12 few weeks back but resisted as that would need to be garaged really... one day I NEED to own one for a bit still cannot get the test drive out of my head! awesome cars!

would I be right in thinking an SL 55 would be less reliable having the supercharger and being a couple of years older? Looking theres some very nice ones and you get an extra 150BHP must be brutally fast!

I prefer the looks of the SLK55 I just find the 500 BHP tempting. but then again I love N/A cars so will have to test drive both!

its already sold being picked up Saturday frown will miss it sadly but wouldn't want to leave it just under a cover. I usually change cars every 3 months or so but kept the Tam for 7 months which is a long time for me! I will also be going back to uni in a few months now my work placement is almost over so want something more practical for the massive speed humps and multistorey car parks that lie around my uni. I am tempted to wait until Sept to get another car as will get a bit of student loan so could afford a 996 911 turbo by then.... decisions... All i keep thinking is I am young and should do it whilst I can there are so many cars I want to experience thats why I change so often

They aren't 500 BHP sadly, the 55 AMG's only got 500 when it was supercharged. I think the SLK is around 360 BHP, which is plenty in such a small car.
I know the SLK's are only 360bhp meant that the 500bhp of the SL55 tempts me

Thanks for the response but I ended up getting a great deal on something I really lusted for and didnt think I could afford for another year or so a 996 Turbo.

I will get an slk55 at some point and I turned down 2 great offers on SLK's after I put a wanted advert up. They were right bargains but I could'nt resist the Porsche!

when the sun was out at the weekend I did miss the Tamora greatly and am sure I will own another one at somepoint maybe in a few years when there are more cars with TVR Power rebuilds on the market giving me greater engine confidence...

I put an add up saying I was a private buyer and would match trade bids and got offered a silver SLK55 amg with 30k on clock for £19k and a black one with 40k on clock for £18500 both were immaculate full service history etc and fully specced and one with 60k+ for £17k. I probably would have sold them for 21-22k in August/sept had I bought one of them.

yes all offers from pistonheads. The wanted ad got one enquiry and I sent an offer to others for sale saying if they needed a quick sale I would pay them trade price same day. a couple of people did need the quick sale and got in touch but then the 911 came up. I shall certainly be doing the same thing next time I change cars as some of the offers people get and accept from traders is horrifyingly cheap!
