I quite like the old 964 RS and would love a 964 body on a GT3 everything else but as i havent got the money to do it i just wondered, how would people retro a GT3?

Some people prefer to 'modernise' and mimic the GT2 RS interior in theirs (or something similar), but how would you do a retro?

Im thinking;
Duck tail
Multi-coloured seat cushions
Red fuel car
Black centres to wheels

But what else?

Hi Steve,

I hear what your saying but the cost to do it correctly is expensive isnt it plus id have to get a donor car. Whereas i have the '3 now but like the retro look.

And before people start talking about impact on future values etc, all mods are reversible and the car, at the moment, is a keeper

Ok, i should say aesthetically and not mechanically

How would you aesthetically retro a modern (water cooled) to look like the GT2/RS's of olden days?

Think out in america theres someone doing the 964/gt3 but not sure what happened to it though think ive seen one in a mag as well.

For my idea, the external mods are easy enough to (see the 997 sc), but what about inside?

its semantics as youll still get the same thing, ie a 964 body with gt3 running gear.

Im just thinking of the aesthetics as such, the exterior has been discussed but what about the interior or was it quite plain inside and nothing special?

Id love to do a wide arch kit with a ducktail but talking atleast £10k to do plus the wheels

Are you actually saying that you think doing some retro mods to a GT3 is the same thing as putting GT3 running gear in a 964?

Its 2 TOTALLY different things!
no, you two arguing like school children over who is correct with regards to the 964/gt3 thing.

I should have worded it better but aesthestically, what can be done. The exterior has been covered and now i'd like to discuss the interior. How would people do a modern retro interior (if its possible)

So i planned to try and take some 'proper' photos today at the PH SS meet @ Silverstone but in my sleepy excitement i forgot to pack it and was tempted to just leave you guys hanging until next weekend as theres some parts still outstanding/need finishing,

However, after heading over to the PEC centre, i spied in the corner this:

So it felt rude not to whip out the trusty phone and take a few pics, admittedly if i was a pro, id have aligned my car better, had numerous flashes and got the light right, however im not and so ill ashamedly admit ive used some 'filters' (upping or lowering contrast mainly).

So ill start the interior as most are probably just looking for the exterior pics ;-)

This was my OEM Interior;

Its ok, its abit 'dull' (lets call it functional) but not that ergonomic imo - the dash could have been better laid out and angled towards the driver but anyway, if im going to retro it im going to have to look at the interiors or the 964RS, and all i had to go on was images from google, however i liked the tricolour seat arrangement and it wasnt/hasnt featured in any Pork since (i might be wrong, im not a porsche history buff);

Admittedly the colours are based on the colours of car but in a slightly lighter or darker shade with a grey central piece, however, i was finding it hard to find a yellow that looked like nice at the car upholsterers and so decided to go with grey and yellow (the yellow was a vinyl, the greys are leather;

I did have the 6 disk cd holder centre console infill but that went and fitted the blanking kit;

So, i started to look around abit more and noticed coloured dials, though most seemed to be tied into the colour of the car, i decided i wanted it grey (P then went and released grey on the Gt3/4) but wanted the dial to match the dark grey leather of the seat. This proved to cause a problem as the leather we used had gone and we couldnt find it in the samples book (or not accurately). As we where unable to find the leather we used, i found a similar car paint colour and supplied it to D-Werks to sort me out.

After lots of being dicked around, i finally received my rev counter (also Paypal found in favour i me and sent me a refund = result) in the wrong shade of grey, given that it had taken alot of grief/agro trying to get it, i decided to fit it anyway (i wanted dark grey, i received light grey);T

i never really wanted a cage in my car as wanted more of a 'tourer' ( ie no cage = luggage space), but i started thinking, what would a gentleman's club racer look like and i thought it would have a cage. Fortunately/unfortunately for the guy, but someone with a 996T had a meeting with a lamp post writing his car off. I quickly vultured the cage and he kindly drove 2 hours to drop it off.

The cage is the 997 PanAmerica one

At the same time, the centre console was starting to get scratched so took an opportunity to source a 2nd hand one from ebay. Some people like painting the centre console the same colour of the car but im not a fan of it, however, as the colour of the seats are covered once you sit on them, and the interior is quite 'dark' i decided to add a splash of colour. Taking my cushion to B&Q, they was able to identify the colour properties of the grey and so i purchased a small taster pot in that colour and proceeded to paint the leatherette panels on the CC;

The passenger seat is now back in the car but thats the only photo i have showing the rear lid in-situ - ill take some more of the front next weekend as i forgot to take some today

So ive still not finished it off as i need to do the following;
1. Sort out the wiring harness for the 3rd brake light (i got sent the 997 wiring loom as nobody realised the 996 loom was different, then the 996 loom has a different brake light plug to the 997 so ive just ordered these plugs.
2. Either have the exhaust tips repowdercoated or ill spray paint them back to black, or i might get the carbon fibre hydro dipped as apparently that has a high temp. resistancy....
3. Spray the oem 3rd brake light so it blends in. Id love to have sourced or made a cover panel so its smooth like the 997 but i left it too late to organise so maybe next year

But anyway, heres some more pics;
no. 000/500 Sport Classic

Comparing Side Profiles (sort of)

Comparing rear ends

Comparing ducktails

Black Badge - not very retro but i liked it and thought the aluminium sticker i had (matte silver/black) would be ruined in the removal process and not reuseable
