I have a 997 GTS (manual) bought new in September 2011. Low(ish) mileage, great condition and Porsche extended warranty through to September 2018. I love this car but it's nearly six years old and I see values increasing to pretty much what I paid for the car in 2011. I had a 24 hour test drive in the 991.2 S and it was a nice car - nothing special, but nice.

Everything I read about the new GTS suggests it's a real step up from the S, but is it really any better than my 997 GTS? I would probably order another manual but is the new 7 speed as good as my (short shift) manual 6 speed?

Do I sell the 997 now while the market is strong and then wait 6-9 months for a new GTS? Even with the strong market for 997 cars, I guessing the price differential would still be circa £40k. Has anyone gone from 997 GTS to 991.2 GTS? If so, I would appreciate your views.

Thanks for the (sometimes conflicting) advice! I like to buy new, which sort of rules out the Spyder, GT4 and 991.1. Perhaps I should rethink that.

I did have my name down (and deposit paid - but that's another story) for a GT4, but to no avail. Was so disappointed with my OPC that I didn't even try for the Spyder, but did come within a whisker of buying the 50 year anniversary 991, which was pretty much a GTS with cosmetics. Dropped our at the last minute because (at that time) values of 997 GTS were a long way below today's market; plus the only 50 year model I could find was PDK.

Must say I like Taffy's comment, which you could call 'the Nike approach' . . . just do it!

Need to decide soon so thanks again for all your comments . . .

Hi Chipper . . . I had pretty much decided to make the change from 997 to 991.2 and your comments (also on the other 'must haves' thread) have convinced me. Have sold the 997 and placed the new car order. I know my spec, apart from two things: manual or PDK and Graphite Blue or Crayon. I am leaning toward manual and Graphite Blue (influenced by your photos!) but will try the latest PDK first.
