Collected my C2S ... 'rolling' noise

Hi all,
So I finally collected my C2S Coupe yesterday. It's one of the very early 997s with a manufacturing date of Nov 2004.
Engine sounds great. Performance as expected. Condition of the car cosmetically is very good for its age. Comprehensive service history. Bore scope inspection completed with no evidence of any scoring. Comprehensive warranty. All good.
But...it does seem an incredibly noisy car .... both around town and at motorway speeds. It could be wind noise or rolling mechanicals. I've got it up to speed (40mph) and then engaged the clutch, and the noise continues with or without the engine.
There's two points of context here; one is I'm otherwise used to an Audi A6 TDI which is very quiet. The other is that I expected it to be a quiet-ish, everyday use car which, I thought, is the 911s USP. And when you want it loud etc, press Sport and drive enthusiastically!!
For reference, my last fun car, which I sold 6 months ago, was a 2005 Boxster S, with approx same mileage (60k miles). By comparison, the Boxster I had was far more civilised and refined...and much, much quieter at speed. Despite having a soft top etc.
So...is this to be expected? Or does it sound wrong to you guys?

Yeah, well most of the ones I looked at were Silver and Black leather. The one I bought happens to be silver but blue inside! There was a Guards Red and two Cobalt ones. Oh and a midnight blue. All black or blue inside.
Mine is Arctic Silver with stone grey full leather interior. I originally wanted a fully specced Basalt black example but when I had the car inspected, the guy I know & trust told me this was a cracking car, so that swayed me.As they say, buy first on condition, then on mileage, spec colour etc...
Mine's averagely specced with heated electric seats (with memory), rear wiper, self dimming mirrors, rain sensors, 3 spoke m/f wheel, top tinted screen, park assist, CD changer & nav.
In storage until 1st December, ready to be taxed etc. Can't wait!

That's interesting...I've had a look and they are indeed Potenzas! My Boxster had Michelin PS2s...Well I've got a Gen 2 version, but it does not make too much noise. I can hear it and it varies depending on the surface, but nowhere near uncomfortable or intrusive.
Easy to have conversations, listen to music or just enjoy the exhaust noise. I know its somewhat subjective, but compared to my wife's Honda type R, its probably as civilised or slightly more so on the noise front.
You need to have a go in someone else's in the same road.

This is very good advice...I'm going to go and visit my local specialist, as the owner has almost the same car as mine...I'll be interested to know if his sounds as loud as mine or not.Easy to have conversations, listen to music or just enjoy the exhaust noise. Ah, I'd have loved grey leather ... I didn't see any sadly. As you say, you have to buy for all the other important factors. Mine also has a fantastic spec...similar to yours plus sunroof, adaptive sports seats, homelink etc. But most importantly, it's history and condition which appear to be as good as I could expect for a car of that age. Ok, just had an inspection report done by my local specialist.
On the whole, it looks like it's a good car that's been looked after. But they did find a worn differential bearing and worn front lower suspension arms and bushes. They reckon the bearings might be contributing to the noise from the back end. So...I've gone back to the dealer, and am awaiting an e-mail refuting everything!!

Probably mainly tyre noise as already mentioned but the 997.1 noise insulation is poor compared to the 997.2.
