Would be great to hear from anyone that has owned/driven the 997 turbo non PDK

Am about to make the purchase but slightly concerned that the non PDK version will not live up to expectations or even worse slide downwards in price rather than go up over the coming years. It’s a reasonably big investment for me at around £54k (full Porsche history, low ownership etc) so price and holding value is a definite consideration.

It would be a second car and buying more for enjoyment factor and summer driving, unlikely it will ever really be put through it’s paces in my ownership.

Any advice as to whether you think this is a reasonably smart way into the 911 ownership without losing too much money at resale would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have had one for a while. Its a good everyday car but without a few mods a tad boring. Or go for something much cheaper like this if it checks out after a PPI. I have a feeling about this one in a few years. Looks v.expensive now but if its good one could be a very shrewd purchase. Early service history looks patchy but current owner looks like he's gone to town.

Thanks for the feedback,.. the one i am looking at has such good history i think it will stand the test of time re: values. am concerned than anything that is not 100% original will not hold up as well... the C2 looks really nice tho! the owner has clearly spent some money on it!!

If you like the drive then go for it, but get it PPI'd because they can rack up big bills if the previous owner has been putting off advisories at service time. Not cheap to run/maintain, but then no old Porsche is smile
Many thanks.
It is turbo and trip and drives extremely well!! will 100% have it PPI checked out before parting with money tho.
if i could afford the PDK version that would be my ideal but the cheapest cab+turbo+PDK+997 is over £20k more expensive,.. i cant stretch to that!

Thanks for the reply, really appreciated.
Have had little chance to use it with this damn weather!

Your right that the gen1 tip is a little underwhelming in some circumstances. Ie if your pushing hard and need to change down thru the gears fast it’s just not able to cope without manual intervention.

On balance It’s a second car and the overall package with twin turbos + rag top & Porsche warrentee give so much assurance & pleasure for the money I think it will do well for a few years.

Would like to think it will hold or increase in value if I look after it but your right. It’s place as an appreciating asset would be better assured if it was manual or gen2!!

I had a 997.1 tt for over 4 years and it was a great car for everyday use and wasnt as expensive to run as some on here have mentioned.
The only criticism i have is that the 1st gear is very short indeed (mines was a manual) when on track or accelerating hard..... thats it.

Other than that they are great cars.
Thanks for the post. I think with the warrantee I’m in a good place cost wise. Will certainly get her on the track some time too and report back!
