Hello one and all! smile

After a few years in the wilderness (with alternative toys - F80 M3, M4 Competition Pack, an Audi SQ5 and an Audi RS5) - I've decided I'm missing a Porker. I can't afford a new 992 and after all of this new metal, I'm entering the used market for a low mileage 991.1 (paying £63-70,000 which probably buys me a car in the 2013 to 2015 year bracket dependent on mileage and spec) - with a little trepidation .....

I know what extras I want: (PDK - it's a daily, ideally LED lights, BOSE, Plus seats, Sport Chrono, Cruise, Sport Design steering wheel, rear wiper, parking sensors etc). However, there aren't a huge number out there so I need to pick carefully ....

What I don't know is what to look out for mechanically. Can anyone advise what to look out for and what typically goes wrong? Is a Porsche warranty a must for this car and should I then stick to the OPC's?

Thanks PPPMAT and hardlylikely - that's very useful and has instantly switched me away from an Indy (unless 911V get one in next week). I have a target and I just need to get an indication on my RS5's value as a part-ex and get a deposit on my chosen example! Let's hope that they're open over the bank holiday weekend ....

To the rufmeister well even the base Carrera makes a great noise, handles and stops superbly. Like few others - although the R8 V8 was pretty good on the handling front from memory! You just have to rev the 3.4 harder to make it go - but there is some delight in the thrashing as I once found out at the PEC where I lapped my own brother (twice) in a 3.4 Carrera...... Smooth as silk and I just kept the revs above 6,000rpm for 30 mins on the track. OK all 4 tyres were melted, but I had a ball, making the speed with a demonic obsession to have my foot on the floor for every second I could.

Well I've pushed the button on an amazing spec '64 plate Rhodium Silver C2S with only 12K on the clock at OPC Cambridge and I collect it on Friday 26th. They've been fab this far and I've thoroughly enjoyed dealing with Scott Riley, who could not have been more helpful and communicative! smile

Thanks! You too. Looking at the photos the dealer sent you and smirking one minute. The next you're frustrated that it's not already on the drive?? In my case - this will be repeated for 9 days ...... frown

Thanks - one up on me as I haven't even seen it in the flesh! I've bought on spec and assurances because there were too many interested parties for me to get up there and test drive it. The deposit had to be paid this am or it would have gone on a first come - first served basis ....

And I have heard of the "pressure sell" too, but in my case we'd been talking for a week. All questions were answered and I'd already agreed a very favourable deal in principle the night before. I had already offered the deposit call for first thing that morning, so when I got the voicemail and slightly panicky email at 9:15am (after their morning meeting) saying that we need to do this right now (because his two colleagues both had interested parties), this sounded credible and I called him straight back to sort it.

If it turns out that I've been played as a fool - then so be it! I should still have a car in amazing condition and superb spec, at a price lower than advertised.

Well based on what I've seen the gap between the two seems to be closing (perhaps as one would expect) - the 4S's that I looked at were more like £2-3K more instead of the £5K when new.

Of course with the arrival of the 992, more of the 991's will be taken out of service as daily drivers and become weekend toys, then the 4 wheel drive becomes less essential for some people. Others like me will always prefer the "adjustability" of the rear wheel drive and with the huge amount of front end grip (especially over a 997), an electronic diff, the stability control and the rear weight bias - even the rear wheel drive cars have huge traction and are pretty benign until you start to push very hard (and you require more skill). So I would argue that it's not required on a 1st gen, although the torque of the 2nd gens means it probably helps some people deploy full power in the wet .... However, when compared to my previous M3/M4's - my C2S finds spooky levels of traction on wet roads ....

As to where the values will go - who knows - it depends on whether people will continue to pay a premium for 4wd! Some will, some won't.
