Can I afford a decent 911 for everyday use?
Discussion
I’m in the process of looking for a new car, I currently drive a BMW 640D which is worth around £14-17k trade in.
I’ve always dreamed of owning a 911 and now I’m in my 40’s it’s the perfect midlife crisis time to consider buying one ??
My budget is around £60k and I would trade my BM in and maybe put some cash additional down if needed but I’d need to do it on a PCP.
My concern is that having looked at the cars available for the money, they are 2010-2013 which is quite old when I can pick up a decent brand new BWM or Audi – granted it’s not a 911 but there’s a lot to be said for reliability and practicality.
I don’t do a lot of miles probably 10-15k mixed with business and pleasure but I have 2 kids so it’s not going to be really practical for much other than the school run, the wife has a C class so it’s not too much of problem for family trips as we’d just use that.
My knees aren't great so I need an automatic and I've read that the PDK box is what I should look for but no idea what's in budget
My heart wants one very much but my head is saying no.
I did look at the Panamera and have test driven the new one which is a great car and the kit and spec are brilliant so I’m mindful that an older 911 won’t have those toys and I need to avoid an older car that costs too much to run.
In reading what I’ve just written I think I’ve talked myself out of it, but then I might not be here tomorrow and would have missed out…
Welcome any thoughts and would like to hear from anyone who may have been in a similar position to me.

With that budget I think you’re pretty close to to buying a base 991.2 Carrera. Has everything you want and will have manufacturers warranty too. Why buy something from 2010 to 2013 when you can buy nearly new with Apple car play etc etc. No brainer

Love this, does it have rear seats?https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
Do you think I’d get them down as I’m struggling to go over £60k
Thanks I’m nowhere near them sadly and have used up all my credit at my local Porsche dealer, test driving the Panemera but not proceeding
I’m guessing I’ll need to try and find a similar car unless the dealer can transfer it.
I wouldn’t go for the red interior by choice but could grow to like it
Would they really drop £4K though?

Apple car play is an OEM option on the gen 2 991 Yes something like this car last of the normally aspirated cars and will probably never drop below £50k for a good one. You miss out on the updated OEM tech of the gen 2 car.
I'd choose the gen 1 like the example you've posted or one of these one with lower miles but have to say as a daily the gen 2 hard to beat and faster too. The exhaust set up on gen 2 depnds on which exhaust specified. The ovals like on the white car are non sport exhaust. The gen 1 will give you more of a traditional 911 experience IMO. Its noise is fantastic especially cars with power kit and sports exhaust.

You go into an OPC and bid £60k I think you'll be owning the cars. Very slow at the mo.
How do I check which is the gen 2 model please?
Well I do have the wifes car but other than that I would need this for work but I don’t drive everyday
I may have trips which might be 3-4hours but they are occasional
I suppose the trade off is it’s a lot of car and cash to sit on the drive, this is why I favoured the Panemera for more practical use everyday but then it’s not a 911...

Been looking at some more 911’s and trying to understand what the coupe version is?
I’ve also noticed that some cars have 2 round exhausts in the middle, some have more rectangular exhausts at the end and some have 4 exhausts. Is there a reason for this?
Also wondering if I should up the budget slightly as well
