991.1 GT3 - Advice on purchase
Discussion
Morning all,
I've had my 997.2 GTS just over 2 years now and am considering what next, I did for a little while consider a California T as i do like a convertible but I'm not sure its robust enough to live outside and put 8-10000 miles a year in.
I keep coming back to the 991.1 GT3 as I am not after a car with forced induction and much prefer an NA engine.
Some questions:
1. I have read about the engine issues early one and the 10 year engine warranty, which for many engines is now expiring in the next 12 months or so, have these cars been sorted out by this point or are they all still grenades waiting to go off ?
2. Will values rapidly decline once these are out of warranty, I expect to lose some money but would rather not risk a huge bath !!
3. How are these as semi daily drivers, it would be a PDK and would be used from everything from trips into London and blasts out in the country plus weekends away etc ...
4. Do these feel noticeably bigger on the road than the 997 (fro those that have experience of both generations of car) ?
Something like this seems to be the sweet spot in regards what I would be looking for and is at the top of my budget, closer to 100k the better.

My only must have on spec is heated seats for the wife !! Not sure the above one has ... were they readily available ?
The car will live outside all year round.
Any and all advice gratefully received.
Its all a long way from my first Porsche, Bluebell the Boxster that was the start of the Poverty Pork thread when I bought her for 3k !!!!
Thanks in advance.

Well, what can I say, I'm humbled by the responses and the information, also spoke at length with my favoured Indie and they now know what I am potentially after, so its a waiting game, its a first world problem and I am not chomping at the bit to get out of my GTS ...
He has recommended I go drive one or at least get out for a decent passenger run in one, so if anyone near Reading fancies blunting their cars performance by letting me park my backside in the passenger seat that would be appreciated and coffee and cake would be on me.

Mate, that's an awesome offer, my office is in Staines so that might be quite easy, are you sure though?
Of course! I will try and figure out how to send you a private message so that we can fix some plans but I have no idea how to use the functionality on this forum so bear with me! robj4 said:

Thats good to know, and like you say, you've had a real result ..... I guess the moral of the story here is I need a car with the OPC warranty intact for the engine, even in early cars that look like they may have got away with it !!
Well the warranty for the engine is separate and transferable no matter where you buy the car. The OPC warranty is worth it for all the other stuff that goes wrong, in my opinion anyway. There's a great thread on Rennlist, all 991.1 GT3's have a 10 year engine warranty from date of first delivery / registration. If the engine suffers a fault due to wear on the Cam Followers Porsche will replace the engine. This was confirmed to me by the OPC that is carrying out the work on my car. If you don't have the Porsche standard warranty extension then I'd assume you would have to pay for the plugs, coil packs, dropping the engine to examine.. So yes I think you're probably right, make sure you have that too.
They had a G6 engine in stock in the UK when my car was diagnosed.
